Tractor recommendations?

Hello. We are in the process of growing our farm and branching into some new avenues and are hoping for some advice on tractor makes and models. We might be acquiring some 80/90 acres of good pasture/field land.

Right now, as more or less "homesteaders" we have made due with our JD 4700 diesel. We do a little haying ( about 5-7 acres ), plow/till about 1 acre, plow snow, move things around etc with that tractor. I don't think it will be enough for the new property, so we're thinking to go bigger with this tractor.

What type/size make/model tractor would you recommend? We will be buying used. The new property means we will be haying about 40 acres, but also cutting alot of timber, plowing snow, driving posts, plowing/tilling/cultivating and etc with that tractor.

I'd start looking in the 50-70 hp (engine) range for that size property and for the jobs you're planning to tackle. Shuttle shift, at least 3000 lb lift on the 3 point hitch, FEL with 6 ft bucket and 3000 lb lift. All the major tractor manufacturers have models like this.

Find a local dealer that has a well stocked parts department and a good service facility.

jd 5410,5420,5510,5520 preferably with a power reverser.mfd is nice.i would add rear wheel weights or cast centers.

as said you want a min 70hp tractor 4x4 fel.an you may even want an 85hp tractor.

Kubota M sized in the 70-90HP range or a deere 5xxx series would be two good places to start. That will give you an idea of sizes, prices, and features. They you can cross compare to New holland, or Kioti, or Mahindra, or LS if you have dealers in your area.
