I am replacing the seat on my Ford 1920 tractor and need to remove the hinge pin that lets the seat flip forward. I can not get it out. I cut the pin in two places (far left and right) to get the seat mounting plate out of the way - the part of the pin in the center that is still attached to the top plate of the suspension system is the problem.

What I have tried so far:
A lot of Break-Free
Used a punch and a 3lb hammer
Used my shop press (20t) to try an press it out. I bent the 5/16 grade 5 bolt I was using as a punch. I made a jig to hold the pin and bracket to stabilize it.

Do I need to heat it with a propane torch? If yes, do I need to run it thru a couple heat / cool cycles? Try punching it out when hot or cool?

If I did not know better I would say it is not removable - except I have purchased the replacement pin and it is on hand (Messicks)

This is feeling like the first time I changed the blades on my bush hog. I thought it would be easy :)

Tonight was a fail, again.

I heated the tubing thru several heat/cool cycles. Tried the shop press again and bent 2 grade 8 bolts I was using as a press pin. Then used a punch and 3 lb hammer - nothing but disappointment and sore thumb, I missed on one swing. Tomorrow I will cut out the center section completely. If I have to I will also cut off the left and right short pieces. I can get a piece of comparable tubing from SpeedyMetals. I have a welder.

A random thought: Rust can seize things up, but damn... That center tube is welded to the seat mount. What are the chances that maybe the weld over penetrated and welded the pin in place?

I tried cursing, but did not help a bit! Sigh.

Drill it out....

I never use propane to heat anything with. Always the OA torch. Propane just don't get hot enough and are you sure it's not welded in?

If there is a center pin (hard to tell and why would there be one in this assembly?), rust could weld it in place. Doesn't look like enough gap for penetrating oil to penetrate.

Since there is replaceable pin which I have on hand (see pic 3548) I would think not. But... The tube the pin slides thru is welded to the seat mounting plate - if the pin was used for alignment - maybe over penetration on the weld? I really want an OA rig.

There is one pin (see pic 3548), the silver pin is the new one to replace what is still rust/welded to mount next to it. I agree about the gap I do not think the Break Free is able to penetrate.

Tomorrow I will start cutting things.
