There I was stopping in to look at some equipment, a zero turn mower and browse the TYM tractors at Maple-Lawn Equipment in Wisconsin. After chatting and browsing for about 45 min. it was time to get back on the road and finish our trip. I started the truck and, long story short, the vacuum pump went out. Therefore I had no power brakes. I was accompanied by my wife and two kids, ages 2 and 4. At this time it's 5pm on a Saturday and I have another 90 miles to go. I hope I'm conveying the severity of the situation here. Two kids and a wife that have been in the truck for about 5 hours. 5 hours. Broke truck.
Arnie, the owner at Maple-Lawn is also a diesel mechanic. I walked over to him and asked what the shop rate was for working on the truck. He asked what happened and how could he help? Arnie told me not to worry about money and proceeded to take me to a parts store, get a pump and then help install it. By now it's around 6pm, on a Saturday, about an hour north of Milwaukee.
I'm hoping to buy a tractor next year and I'll be working with Arnie when that time comes. I just had to relay this story to everyone...
