Tractor
TYM T603
Pre-thinking this upcoming project.

Will be splitting my tractor soon (TYM T603) and Phase I will be removing the cab. The cab is all one piece including floor with a hole at the front for the controls. There are lifting fittings at the 4 corners of the cab.

My problem is... my shop is not ideal (or possibly even feasible?) for this Phase. My sheetrocked shop has 10' ceilings with trusses spaced every 2'. It looks like the cab would need to be lifted about 24" to clear the tops of the rear tires. Lift space above the mounted cab looks to be about 24.5" (maybe 25" if I remove the sunroof). If I mount some small pulleys into the trusses and use some steel cable, I may be able to just get the cab high enough to move the tractor out from underneath it then lower it to the floor.

My other choices are to lift it off outside the shop using a big tree or under a big deck... but then the tractor has to be driven back into the shop and it probably wont have a seat or pedals at this point. Not sure how hard this would be.

How much does a cab weigh? My guess? 200 lbs?

Probably would need to remove the glass to lighten it up. Could even remove the cab top to gain more lift room (but would rather not). (AC and Heater hoses will have to be dealt with either way). The front of the cab is taller than the back so I might be able to raise the front higher than the back to clear the tires.

Thanks for any ideas!

Holy cow. Sounds horrible. Removing the glass seems like a lot of work. With glass it weighs way more than 200 pounds that’s for sure. With options you listed I’d remove it outside. Lots or work and risk of it not clearing wheels. How much work is involved in separating the cab from chassis?

On another thread, you mentioned that you're going to change a couple of seals on the input shaft. I don't think you have to take the cab off to split the tractor. Unless you're going to do something else underneath the cab.

Agree. Few tractors need the cab removed to make a front split. If you can access the upper bellhousing bolts I will bet it can be split with the cab in place.

If you run into access problems you can sometimes unbolt the cab and lift it slightly to gain the needed room. often you can leave the rear cab mount bolts in or replace them with longer bolts so you do not have trouble aligning the holes later. If you do have to remove the cab lift the cab up. Take the tires off and using a floor jack or a dolly to slide the much lower tractor forward out from under the cab. The cab most likely weights 500 or so lbs. It will be a pain to line the cab and tractor up later, but its doable.

Some times a cab can be tipped back as it's being lifted and the tractor rolled out from under it.

Sorry for the delayed reply... been swamped and forgot to subscribe.

Thanks to all for all the good ideas/thoughts!

The dealer wants 4K to do the job. I want to save the $ and learn how to do it and know how it was done. (Plus I'm on a remote snowy mountaintop and its an additional hassle to transport the machine, etc). I've got calls into the dealer parts department and have yet to hear back.

I hadn't thought about a partial cab lift or a NOT removal! Just assumed I had to remove the cab to get to the bell housing bolts. There are only 4 bolts that hold the cab in place so I could easily remove/loosen those for a partial lift!

If I do have to remove the cab, I've got a tree setup right outside my shop with a chain hoist. I guess I could then work the controls to ride it back into the shop without a seat. The cab glass looks fairly easy to remove but it will be hard to handle a few of the pieces like the doors. But I'm not sure I would want to lift the full cab with glass weight as well.

I will be looking into the bell housing bolt access shortly. The purpose of the split is to replace shaft seals and clutch. (Also been having some issues with 4WD and creeper but not sure yet if that will be on this project).

I will update this as I go.

Thanks again.

I fully understand you want to do the job yourself. Just wondering how the dealer does the job, cab on or off.
