Anyone use tractor implements on SS, or vice versa? If so how do you handle oil/fluid cross contamination? My NH LS109 uses 10w-30 for hydraulic fluid, my tractor uses a hydraulic fluid. I have several attachments for the SS, that I would like to use on the tractor, but will not until I figure a way to handle the oil "problem". Any ideas?
Thanks.

There is no great solution-it's like kissing your sister:thumbdown:

About the only solution is to flush the implement before each use on the other machine by taking one QD off and operate the attachment while the open hose is in a bucket. Messy, wasteful and expensive after a while. If your tractor has a hydrostatic tranny then you need to be real careful not to contaminate the fluid.

just a quick question. I have been reading reciently that some tractors use motor oil in place of hydraulic fluid. Seems odd to me, but i have read thatits normal for some equipment.

CAN the NH tractor use hydraulic fluid OR motor oil (depending on operators preference) or does it HAVE to use 10w-30??

I personally wouldnt want to mix the 2. Ive been told that 5w motor oil is equiv to iso22 hydraulic oil, etc. But i personaly wouldnt want the 2 to mix.

That is a good point, perhaps his SSL can use hydraulic oil?

I don't consider cross-contamination to be a significant problem unless one of the machines has contaminated oil, which is a significant problem on its own. Certainly mixing UTF type oil with a high quality 10W-30 engine oil suitable for use in a SSL hydraulic system will not be problematic.

I have yet to experience or hear definitive proof of mechanical problems directly attributable to oil type cross contamination when both oils were clean and properly filtered.
