I would like to buy a utility tractor and several implements such as a tiller, plow, front end loader, and belly mower. What kind and size building is recommended to store the tractor/implements along with an old pickup.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve, I have a 20x20 wood building, metal roof, on slab with a 12X27 lean-to for two tractors, Back hoe, box blade, shredder, small trailer. IT IS TOO SMALL! If I was starting from scratch the minimum would be: 12x24 for each tractor or truck. I would have another stall doors on each end for every 2 implements so I could easily attach and detach from either side. I now have a skylight panel in each stall and that is very nice so I would keep that idea. For implements like a box blade and the plow I would have a lean-to or separate pole barn. Geared or hydraulic Implements like the backhoe, tiller, shredder would get a stall. So, in my opinion, to sum it up for you for just he equipment listed (and remember you will aways need (or want) more:
36X24 on slab
Metal roof with skylight panels
10x10 doors
windows - light and ventilation
Lean-to or pole-shed for plow & other non geared/hydraulic implements.

Steve,

Welcome to TBN!! There are basically no set recommendations for storage, but in my case I store my tractor and implements in a barn that is 36 feet long and 24 feet wide. With the RB and FEL on my JD 4210 I can back the tractor in and still have just enough room for a full size car (Olds 98). As it's an older building there are posts and beams supporting the second floor so I can't possibly park side by side. The downside is, if I want to get the JD out, it means move the car first. It has one 9 foot wide OH door.

The garage on the opposite side of the driveway is 36 feet wide X 24 feet deep. It holds our SUV and summer driven car, with a 16 foot OH door.

For a tractor and implements, plus a vehicle, the minimum I would recommend is a 24 foot X 24 foot building. Unless the tractor you are buying has a folding ROPS, you likely will not be able to fit the tractor under the standard size 7 foot height overhead door.

The size I suggest is commonly available in both stud wall construction garages and post frame buildings, but don't build too small. It's not that much more expensive to upsize. Good luck, and I hope this helps.

No idea where you're located, but in my area I don't need complete enclosure. Protection from sun and rain are primary and I use drop-sheds unless I need to move something into the shop to work on it. My shop is 24x40 with 10' ceilings. I have an 18'X42' drop-shed down the north side with 24'X24' drop-sheds on each end. I've decided I still don't have enough covered space and am in progress of adding a 24'X42' shed across the south side. I don't think you are likely to build too large...

Hi
I built a 30x50 thinking it was more than I would ever need, I was wrong I now need more space. I am now considering building another building a 50x100 so if I were you build slightly larger than you think you need and can afford, You will not regret it 5 years from now.

Twice, no make that four times more space than you think you will need. Doors at each end of the shed with enough clearance for the tractor and any implement. Concrete floor to allow easy rolling of dollies (for when you run low on maneuvering & storage room). Good climate control & lighting. My reality is 1/2 of a 24x28 garage. It's the minimum space for storage of the tractor & tools only.

Charlie, it really doesn't matter what size you make a building. Human nature being what it is, we fill whatever space is available and wish for more. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif There's no such thing as a big enough barn. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

How big is your lot/yard? Just kidding, as Bird said no matter how big, you will always be able to fill it and want more. When we moved in to our house I thought that my 24x26 garage was HUGE and would never want for room. Now the wife's $35000 Trailblazer sits outside so my Kubota can stay cozy!! Hey, I plan on keeping the Kubota alot longer than the car!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

WELCOME TO THE FORUM! not to be flip. but u can never have too much space, i have 2 , rather large 3 car garages, and i sometimes lack for space, of course i do let friends store stuff in them, and then add my stuff and cars, and tractors, never ending circle.

forgot to mention in last post, no matter waht size building u deceide on , make sure u put in doors that are at least 9ft in height, don't cost that much to go up when building the unit. very sorry i did not do that when i built mine.
