I need something to spread anti-skid or sand in the winter. I have looked at the 3-pt seeder spreader at TSC, has anyone used one for this purpose and how did they hold up? Thank You:

I've also been looking at them but am concerned because of salt rusting them out.

You can use them for that. When using a fertilizer spreader you to have a strong "thingie" at the bottom to stir the sand (I use a bolt instead of the wire that came with mine) and the sand needs to be kept dry. Wash it out if you use salt. Better yet don't run salt through it. Plastic ones are probably better for salt.

if using salt you amy want to rinse them off each time also.

Plastic hopper is a help, but salt can rust the frame of the spreader, too.

For what they cost....what 3-400???....probably cheaper to buy a new one every year then end up in the hospital with a busted leg, etc...
I tore my achillies tendon on my right foot slipping on the ice (not in my driveway)...hurt like a BLEPPETY BLEEP for a long time, and to this day it still bothers me from time to time....

Seriously speaking, it should last you 3/4 years I'm guessing. Builder is right though, even if you buy a plastic hopper version it wont be rust proof...only way to get generations of service would be to buy one made of stainless..

I guess if you washed it down after useage with salt, but who can do that after a freezing cold night of spreading salt?

Maybe spray the frame with fluid film? That stuff would attract salt & make a mess.

Anti-skid at the quarry's around here do not have salt, very fine crushed stone and some sand. I know it would have to be dry. I had a large dump with a spreader but it' was just to big to get around the developments we have. (cul-de-sacs)

I have a Turbospin spinspreader 3 pt that should do the job as well as lots of others. I bought this from my Deere dealer for about $600 and it works well, will spread sand and fines about a 50 ft swath. Has a spun aluminum hopper too.

Is the frame aluminum or stainless?
