Here's one--the Mahindra 8560 4WD with the ML282 FEL and the 511 backhoe.

Farm tractors for Ag Farmers, Hobby Farmers - Sub Compact, Compact & Full Size 2WD & 4WD Utility Tractors

With 85 engine hp, 70 pto hp, 4WD, power steering, 12F/12R fully syncromeshed tranny, you should be able to handle disc mowers, swathers, balers with accumulators, bale squeezes, etc.
The 8560 4WD is heavy enough (7300 lb) and the FEL has enough lift capacity (4100 lb) and lift height (11 ft) to handle large round bales.

I have a 2008 Mahindra 5525 (54 hp engine, 45 hp pto, 2WD, power steering, partial constant mesh tranny) and the ML250 FEL (2980 lb lift to 10.5 ft height, skid steer quick attach) for my haying work on my 10 acres. A heavy, strong, simple tractor.

You might want to narrow down what kind of equipment you want to run. You said "all types of haying equipment". A big square baler will need close to 150 hp to run it. A 4x5 round baler and a 9' disc mower could easily be handled by a 70 hp tractor like my Montana T7074. A small square baler and a sickle mower could be run by something in the 45 hp range(and is done by tractors with less hp) without trouble. My main tractor is a MF5455 that I use to run a MF2746A(4x6 baler) and use to mow with as a "catch up" machine. I does everything well(loading, mowing, baling and is Very comfortable:D), is 105 engine hp/85 on the pto, and to say the least is not cheap, but it is IMO a great "all around" tractor.

Welcome to TBN. We would really need more information on what your property is like (acres, flat, hilly, etc.) to give a better picture of the type of tractor. Flusher is pretty much on the money for the minimum size on doing a haying operation. There are several brands that will work well for you. I suggest that you go sit an as many as are available in your area and see how they fit you personally (controls, steering, etc.).

Good luck and keep us informed.

Certainly need more info as to what size of equipment you wish to run in order make a worth while recommendation. Would also need a little info on your terrain and the amount of acreage as to the sizing of the machines to be able to keep it from killing a lot of your time.

Thanks for the replies.

To answer the questions....

40 acres of small to medium rolling hills.

I have an old international square bailer (445, don't even know if it works!), windrow machine, 8' wide disc, 6' brush hog.

I need a good tractor that can pull this stuff around no problem. I looked at the Kubota L4400 ($30,000 w / loader and backhoe) and the JD 4120 ($42,000 w / loader and backhoe) today.

Does TYM make a good tractor...there's a dealer in the area....

I believe the tractors you mentioned are compact versions. I would stay with the larger Ag tractors. Believe they will be better suited to your plans.

We do most of what he has planned (8' Sickle bar Mo-Co, NH Small Square baler with a kicker pulling a wagon, 18' tedder, 9' roll bar rake, etc) with a open station Kubota L3830 that has loaded rear tires. We have gently rolling hills (the biggest is a 10' rise in ~60') and we bale 8-12 acres of hay every year, this year we have gotten ~700 bales (IIRC) from the first cutting and are ready to start the second cutting on one field (when we get a dry spell).

The Montana T7074 I mentioned in my previous post is a Tym built tractor. I have used it as a mowing tractor for parts of 2 summers now doing custom hay. The Tym version is the T700. This model has a John Deere turbocharged engine and seems to be a very well built tractor. It cost us much less than the comparable model MF we where considering(a 573). My wife is the main operator of it and her only complaints are that the A/C could be colder(couldn't it always be;)) and that the cab could use a bit more sound insulation, but that it is far better than sitting outside:D. It is also a true AG tractor and would do anything you would need and more.

BTW. In the Montana's version at least this tractor was available with either AG(R1) or Industrial(R4) tires. The Ag tires give the tractor a bit better ground clearance and seem to be a better choice for Ag work. A nieghboring ranch also had one of these with the R4's and it and so far that is their only complaint. It is run by hired hands that are known to be able to break a steel rail with a rubber mallet. After 4 years of use/abuse the tractor is still going strong.
