Tractor
John Deere 325
JD 325, blower and chains. Should i reduce tire pressure or keep same as in summer..

I run the front tires at higher pressure do to the added weight of the blower. Rear tires usually run similar pressure year around.

With chains, you have to get them as tight as possible, so my routine is to deflate rear tires, put chains on, strap excess links so they don't catch on anything flaying around, and re-inflate to normal pressures. Remember that air pressure drops in tires as the temperature drops. So I've usually will account for that also. IIRC I usually add around 5 PSI to the normal pressures to account for operating in Winter where temps range from 0 to 32 degrees for snow storms. For temps from 32 to 35 (Ice Storms) the extra pressure helps the chains bite into the build up of ice. Just 30+ years of dealing with Winter in Michigan.

Depends alot on what type of tires you have (turf vs R4, for example) and how much it weighs with everything on.

With aggressive treads and chains, small changes to tire pressure won稚 change things much.

My own preference is to air them up - keep them solid so that the chains bite the ground vs squishing into the tread.

Well I guess it depends on what type of surface you are removing the snow from. If it is a hard smooth surface like asphalt or concrete, you may want to lower the pressure just a bit.

Metal on asphalt gives very little traction, while the rubber from the tire does. So if you get a clear driveway, the chains will actually reduce the traction.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

I do the same thing.
