Tractor
PT - 425
I own a PT-425 (1390 lbs dry weight) + about 1800-2000 lbs of accessories, depending on what I take with me that day.
I have ordered a 15' tandem axle, 7000lb, wood bed trailer, bulldog hitch, brakes, LED lights, ramps. To be picked up Saturday.
I have a 2006 Dodge 1500, Quad cab, shortbed pick-up.
I know I am well within the abilities (mechanically and legally) for my truck to pull this trailer.

I would like to buy insurance to cover my new trailer and tractor and accessories as I haul them around.

Someone please tell me what questions I need to ask the insurance agents, so they won't just start laughing at me for trying to cover/protect my investment in my tractor and trailer.

I am not a business, I am an individual that needs to haul his tools around, to help my mom and sister, to help out at church, and to do what I need to do, when I need to do it, that's why I am getting the trailer.

I don't know about the state you are in but here our trailer is state registered with plates and insured when hooked to the vehicle. While parked on my property my trailer, tractor and implements are covered by homeowners policy. You may only need insurance for the tractor and accessories. As a business you may need separate coverage for the trailer. I'd ask for replacement cost insurance if available, or a policy that covers a rental tractor and trailer in case of accident, fire, or theft. You'd need some liability coverage for working on someone elses property if you cause damage.

In my state, I just insure my tractor for damage (fire, wind, hail) and for theft. If I am pulling the tractor on a trailer and the tractor falls off, the tractor is covered by the tractor insurance. If the tractor falls off and damages something else or causes another accident, then my truck insurance covers everything but the tractor itself. Ask these question to your insurance company to be sure. My insurance guy didn't know when I first asked and he did some research to find the answer.

You need to ask for a Personal Inland Marine policy (IIRC).

I just got the renewal notice for my tractor insurance and I was amazed that it was called a Personal Inland Marine Policy I was trying to figure out what it was for a minute then I realized that it was for my tractor.

I had a car on a trailer. The truck I was using at the time died going up a hill and I slid backwards until the trailer jackknifed into the side of a bank. The only thing hurt was the trailer and it had the frame bent. When I checked with my insurance agent he told me I had to have a seperate policy on the trailer but those policys are very cheap. So in arkansas at least the trailer itself is not covered under your truck policy.

Yep. That was my understanding as well.

If your trailer sideswipes a car, your tow vehicle policy covers it.
If your trailer is damaged, you need to have a separate trailer policy to cover that.

If you have your tractor on the trailer, you must have an Personal Inland Marine policy to cover it.
