Tractor Weight

Hi Everyone:

The dealer is faxing over the paperwork for a 25D today. I am having last-minute jitters, mostly because prices and tractors are so close that it really is becoming a case of "will I regret that I bought Blue instead of Orange." I know, it shouldn't be this hard!

Well, I'm sitting here looking over the 2710 and 25D specs before committing, and I keep looking at the weight difference between the two finalists. The 25D looks to be quite a bit heavier. 2588 pounds to the Kubota's 1741. Percentage-wise, that's a lot! Are they really in the same class? Extra weight indicates what? Built like a tank? Less weight means what? More efficiently engineered?

Aiiieee! Help me Mr. Wizard!

Jim,

If I were looking for a unit to be primarily a big lawn mower I would want the lighter unit to avoid damage to the lawn. But if my needs were for an all around unit that could take a lickin' and keep on tickin' I would tend to go for the larger/heavier frame (irregardless of color).

I'm sure you spent enuff time like we all did, rackin' our brains over a decision and you weighed all your options before this ... is weight now a deciding factor? was it before? I did the same thing just before buying my 45 - started nit pickin' my own decision ----in my case - a waste of time and sweat. Once I finally got over the $$$$ commitment thing (a biggy)- it was all downhill.

What also complicates things is that I am not sure the manufacturers use the same method to come up with the weight, ie you might be comparing apples and oranges. I was making the same decision a couple of months ago and decided to go with the boomer because it seemed beefier, more modern design and better ergonomics. With 52 hours now I am quite happy with my decision. I was using my TC33 next to my father in law's JD 4100 the other day and he was remarking how much smoother and quieter the boomer sounded than his. Made me feel good about my choice.

Means... you can tow heavier loads, more stable with loader operations, gives you more effective drawbar hp...

That 25D for a similar price is a bargain, it also has more hydraulic hp, more 3-point hitch lift than Kubota...

So the bottom line in your case... it looks like your getting more tractor for the same amount of dollars... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thanks Everybody. Based on my own mental contortions and the amazing advice I've received here, I've purchased the tractor (25D). The dealer also sent along quotes for the 29D and the 33D, for +725 and +1350, respectively. I couldn't see spending that much extra for essentially the same tractor, especially given that at the start of this process I was set to buy a $4000 Sabre garden tractor from the local John Deere dealer.

The initial price has increased due to the following (please chime in if you see an unreasonable price?):

1. 2 hooks welded to the bucket, N/C (part of the standard setup - you have to ask *not* to get them if you don't want them.

2. HD bucket, +$40

3. 1 rear remote +$250

4. Tooth Bar for Bucket +300

5. Arm Rest Kit +60

That's $650 in extras, added to:

25D w/Supersteer $13,500
7308 FEL $1900
914A MMM $2100

Grand Total, assembled, ready for pickup, $18,150.

I had fun, but I'm glad it's over.

P.S.

We have taken to calling the new property "Valhalla." Names under consideration for the tractor include "Thor," "Zeus," and "Odin." Any thoughts?

Now you have the unenviable position of the wait. How long before you get it? And how do you intend to occupy your time until then? I remember reading the brochures over and over and over again. It took months before the grin disappeared ...

It is the worst of all possible situations for a person with little patience. I've no place to put it until spring, and the dealer has agreed to keep it under cover for me until I pick it up then. This is truly a demonstration of supreme control!
