Tractor
Farmall M
Hello, i have a farmall m from the early 1950's. I was plowing the driveway today and all at once my tractor would not move after i put it in gear. It was operating fine and have had no problems in the past. Does anyone have answers?

As in locked in two gears, and engine pulling down, and won't move, or in gear, clutch out, and will not move..??

Any noises coming from the mid section, or transmission..??

Clutch pedal feel any different, like spongy..??

My dad had an M Farmall that did this on a regular bases ... Let me see if I remember this right. Push down on the shift lever to release pressure on the roll pin that holds the lever in place ... remove the pin, you may have to use a punch and a hammer ... pull the shift lever out then look down in the hole there are 3 obvious shift patterns that must be lined up ... on of the three is out of place ... dad would unscrew the knob off the lever and then use that end (small end) as a pry bar to pop the one that was out of alignment back into place ... if you look at the end of the lever that you pull out you can get the idea that it has to rock back and forth in nuetral ... just line them up and I believe you will be good to go.

I agree had this happen a few times on my H line up the gates and you will be good to go.The end of the shifting lever is worn down,I built the end of the shifter rod with my welder and fixed the problem

Thats interesting ... I guess that end gets wear and tear, dad never owned a welder.

Thanks for the advice Deerseeker001 and Blueriver I will try these fixes. The tractor is in neutral and the transmission does not make any noise. It does feel like the shifting leaver is a bit looser then usual. It also sounds like the pressure plate is working when I step on and release the clutch. I will have to wait a few days to look at it as the temperature is -15 now and a high of 0 to 5 degrees with high winds for the next few day's. Thanks again I hope it is a simple fix.
