Was at the gulf coast (Gulf Shores, Alabama) last weekend, and found the damage to be very sporadic, heavy at some places, and little sign elsewhere. There were several "stations" from which the cleaning crews worked. The equipment at the stations is what caught my attention--tractors, trailers, Mules, Gators and the like--ALL brand spanking new.
I tired to time it right to get a picture of the equipment line up, but most were "in service" when I took the pictures. I have included (1) a shot of the equipment area (2) a tractor transporting some important accessories and
(3) a shot of the beach.
The beach shot was last Saturday, and things have changed in this area (I am told). The cleaning crews would disperse from the stations and clean with the equipment, but mostly by hand. The situation at a particular beach was dependent on how much oil had drifted in, and how quickly the crews could get to it. In our time there we did not see any significant globs of oil in the water, but any day that can change. The current storm brewing will have a major affect as well
