Was at the gulf coast (Gulf Shores, Alabama) last weekend, and found the damage to be very sporadic, heavy at some places, and little sign elsewhere. There were several "stations" from which the cleaning crews worked. The equipment at the stations is what caught my attention--tractors, trailers, Mules, Gators and the like--ALL brand spanking new.

I tired to time it right to get a picture of the equipment line up, but most were "in service" when I took the pictures. I have included (1) a shot of the equipment area (2) a tractor transporting some important accessories and
(3) a shot of the beach.

The beach shot was last Saturday, and things have changed in this area (I am told). The cleaning crews would disperse from the stations and clean with the equipment, but mostly by hand. The situation at a particular beach was dependent on how much oil had drifted in, and how quickly the crews could get to it. In our time there we did not see any significant globs of oil in the water, but any day that can change. The current storm brewing will have a major affect as well

Liked the middle pic, tractor with a his and hers outhouse. :cool2:
Looks like you had nice weather while you where there. If that storm comes in as expected it will sure move a lot of that oil inland. Sad to see them cleaning up the oil soaked birds  but I guess they are the lucky ones. Probably thousands of them that are never found.

There are a lot of new things at the rates BP is paying you can afford to buy the stuff and staff a whole new crew and have your stuff paid off by the end of the summer.

A guy i used to work with lives in S. GA and was trying to get his 24 cuddy cabin boat signed up to pull boom in the gulf around mex. beach or pan. city or pensacola FL. He was going to pay his son and a sons friend to run the boat if it works out. The going rate for his size boat, at least $1300/day. We know this is true cause a guy he works with or something has 2 boats working at the time we talked a few weeks back. This guy's pontoon was making $1300 a day and he had a smaller boat (no idea the size of the 2) but it was making $1100/day. At those prices i could buy a $45k boat and have it paid off at the end of the summer and still pay a licensed 25ton capton or similar sport fishing guide out of work to run the thing. These prices are crazy, so many out of work folks and they have to pay this kind of rates, the ones who make out are the well of business men who see an opertunity and capatiolize. Me i am the nervous type so i will never look into buying 3 $35k 24 ft CC boats and staffing them, allthough i know if i could get a 2 month contract i could make some serious money and then sell the boats for $10k less than i paid new and make out like a bandit.

This being said there is no idea what the rate is for a tractor and all the other stuff. but probly the same ballpark of $$.
