Well, my wife just got back from a 23 day trip overseas.. ( and boy am I happy /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ).. Anyway.. she went to thailand, nepal, china ( few general areas), and tibet.

What she noticed the most that tractors were pretty much the predominant vehicle in most places, except bangkok. ( mopeds and scooters and bikes there ). Lotsa busses and tractor.. few other pack and riding animals.. and very few horse. Lots of Yak riding too.

Once I get the 745 pics downloaded from the camera.. I'll post a few. The neatest ones are these little articulating tractors.. front engine.. mid articulate.. seat is more of a sulkie setup.. and it has handlebars like a motorcycle. front wheel drive. Engines on a few of them were just 'lawnmower' engines belt coupled to a big flywheel and transmission. She saw repair shops right ont he roadsides where they would just swap engines over.. rebelt and go.. neat..

There is a guy a couple miles from here with a Landini I believe. It is an articulated tractor, mostly used in vineyards. I have seen him out using it to spray and mow in his small vineyard. There also was a guy who posted here a bit, a few years back. He had one. The guy down the road, his has a mid mount ROPS. Looks different for sure.

It was a bit of an ordeal on the last day. The bombing at london messed up flights out of heathro (sp? ) airport.. and lots of planes were rescheduled/re-routed. Her flight into LAX from Nepal was diverted for a longer than planned layover at Osaka japan, causing the trip to LAX to be late.. causing her to miss the connecting flight to charlotte, NC and then another connection to tampa, FL. I was on the phone all friday morning with travelocity ( no-help-dumb-idiots) and Us Airways, trying to arange a flight with similar times and destination. I wasn't picking her up at tampa.. but had arangements for her to be picked up.. and had to have a deffinate answer so i could either reschedule that pickup or give the 'go-ahead' on it.. It was too late to take off that day of work by the time this problem cropped up. Finally got her on a continental flight to houston, connecting to tampa, at about the same arrival time... (lots of grief to make that happen!! ). In short.. I won't ever book thru travelocity or use US Airways as a carrier.. ever. On her way out, on us airways back in june.. she got to charlotte.. and us air had to cancel/re-route a flight due to plane trouble.. this put her late into lax.. while she was gone, they sent notice that her flight back from lax to charlotte was again changed due to a plane bing taken out of service. And in the end.. they couldn't even get her on a us airways flight back.. so had to jump her to another carrier... This whole time.. travelocity new nothing.. I knew more than they did.. they didn't even have info onthe plane changes that were/had already taken place.. I was telling them that her flight had been changed from US A120 to US A 975.. etc.. and they would say.. 'No sir.. she is schedule don ....... etc." Duh! BZZZT wrong answer... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm glad she's home now. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Flying can be such a hassle these days. Glad your wife made it back safe and sound. Sure sounds like a marvelous adventure. It's such a different world over there. I look forward to seeing some of the pics.

most of the tractors that are the sulky are walking tractors. My uncle is ceo of a large seed company and spends a few weeks in China every year. He says they even have an extra axle that bolts onto the pto that makes the trailer 4x4. Hes also seen the hydraulically steereed articulated tractors in Europe. I think they are a Pasquali not sure. Cant wait to see the pics though.

Soundguy,
I spent a few weeks in several areas of China about 10 years ago. At that time the 2 wheel walking tractors seemed to be the thing. You would see them going down the road pulling a trailer with stuff stacked 15 feet or so in the air. The engines looked a bit crude and smoked, but kept going. The engines might have been diesel, not sure, just know that they were big one lunged suckers.
