I have a 2000 BX2200 with 500 hours on it, 60" mmm and FEL. Trading to BX2350 comparably equipped. Dealer has done all the service on the BX2200 so he knows it has been well taken care of.

He's saying $7200 for the trade. I'm thinking that's a bit high. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Are you saying he wants you to give him your tractor and 7200.00 ?Most dealers want you to give them yours and buy theirs.I know they have to turn around and make some profit off of your old one but give us a break.I would compare the two and see if it is really worth the extra $$$$$.

?? Do you mean you think $7,200 is a bit low? Meaning you'd like more?

If you sold your BX2200 on the open market, I think you'd get more than that, sure. But you need to list it, have folks come by your house, show it, get beat down, wash, rinse, repeat.

Selling it to a dealer is clean as a whistle, but you won't get fair market value for it...just like trading in a car. Since he has to turn around and sell it for what you SHOULD get for it if YOU tried to sell it...in other words he has to build in some profit by offering you less.

Your choice...sell it yourself and get more, or live with his price and wash your hands of it.

The 500 hours may scare a person or two off, but if it is garage kept and shiny as a new penny, you should get a solid $8,500 or $9,000 for it, I would think. If it is "a little less than perfect", making it more like $8,000 or $8,500, it may be worth considering the $7,200 just to save yourself the brain damage.

Just my thoughts.

I'm saying he wants my tractor, mower and fel and $7200 and he'll give me a new BX2350, mower and fel. So if I can buy it outright for say, $13,200 and he wants $7200 he's allowing me about $6,000 for the trade.

My tractor's been garage kept from day 1. My fel looks brand new. The bulk of the hours are mowing and snowblowing.

So when I say he seems high, I'm saying he wants too much money from me for the trade. And from your responses, it looks like he's quite a bit high!

Sorry. Engineer brain can't see it from the other end sometimes.

Umm...ya...$6,000 is a little on the low side for your trade. For 500 hours use, depreciation, etc., perhaps you'd be in the ballpark if he takes your tractor and, say, $4,000. In the end of the day, it seems inescapable that you'll do much better just selling your tractor on the open market.

Garage kept and everything, you should get a solid amount from somewhere.

If your tractor was in my area for $8,500 and I was in the market, I'd very seriously consider it over new. Your issue is that you're 2 generations old now and you need to be enough below "new" to get folks to bite. Make them stretch too much and you'll get the old "Aw, heck. $3,000 more and I'm in a brand new ride" excuse.

FWIW, I paid $9250.00 for a brand new BX2350 (tractor only) just a couple of months ago from my local dealer. Just trying to offer a reference point.

I was in the same boat exactly one year ago when I put my gently used 3 year old BX2230 up for sale. It had 175 hours on it. Ran ads, showed it many times, but when it came down to it, $3k and I can get new with warranty was the typical response I got. I ended up trading it in July 2007 for the B3030. What I did find out was that if I did sell my 2230, I would have to pay state sales tax on the full sales price, $19,800 + 6% = $20988, but in WV you only pay state sales tax on the trade difference, $19,800 - $10,900 = $8900 + 6% = $9434. So I saved about $700 in sales tax plus the rebate. All in all, I ended up getting what I was asking for trading it in as opposed to selling it outright! One last thing.....Had I known about the state sales tax thing back in October 2006 when I started all of this, I would have saved an additional $300.....The reabates on the 3030's were $700.....Now they're only $400!

As you can see in the photo, the 2230 on the right is as shiney new as the new 3030 on the left.

Thanks......

"in WV you only pay state sales tax on the trade difference"

Same way in NY -- except the tax rate here is 8% so that certainly needs to be taken into account.

Not to get too far off the subject, Mr. Swmpbgy1, but did you ever get any comments about having the Woods FEL vs. the Kubota FEL? Something like a Backhoe, one would more expect to see a non-OEM unit, but the FEL (or MMM for that matter) is usually one of those things you get new with the tractor. Did you have any particular reason you went with the Woods and do you have any particular comments about its performance?

Just one of those things I was wondering about and figured I'd ask it here so others would have the benefit of the response.

All:

Being a novice to the tractor field when I bought the 2230, I had never given it a thought....Kubota vs. Woods loaders. The one thing that swayed my decision at the time was, the brush guard for the Kubota loader stayed with the loader when it was removed from the tractor, whereas the brush guard stayed with the tractor on the Woods. Another factor was the diameter of the removeable loader pins on the Woods, they were much beefier.....and the Woods was cheaper too. My Dealer recommended the Woods, so I went with it. Worked great. It never complained when I loaded it full of gravel or broken concrete.

Hope this helps.......
