Well, guys, the tractor bug has bit me again. I have had my 790 since the middle of 2001. I put a #70 loader on it and have put almost 500 hours on it. Great little tractor. Works great in our landscaping business.
I now have the itch for a 990. My dealer just got one in the other day. He told me to go out and look at it. (of course, he left the keys in the ignition......) WOW!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I think I am in love!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I love the front end on this thing!! It seems sooo wide compared to the 790. It sits up higher, the fuel tank is in the back, the straight vertical exhaust pipe is gone, the engine sounds different, the tires are larger, wider wheel base, the operator platform is larger.....dang.....should I trade up, or keep my 790?? What should be a good price for a 990 with a 430 loader? What is the lifting capability of the 430 loader?

I am going back to the dealership today to look at it again.

I got my ~41 hour old 990 + 430 FEL, with ballast box, 12" PHD, and 513 cutter for $19k. A steal!

Gee, Dave. I would think that a fellow in the landscaping business would need a couple of very capable machines. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

You know, one for the smaller, tight quarters jobs, and one for the larger, knock 'em down with brute force jobs.

Sounds like you need both of them! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I just went through the same EXACT thing. I had a 790 with about 115 hrs, and switched to the 990. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! Its not even close. The 790 IS a great LITTLE machine, and it ends there.
I purchased mine with 430FEL, 73 HD bucket w/bolt on reversable cutting edge, loaded R4 tires, block heater, and rear imp light for 18400. I think that I did ok. I'm very happy and have no complaints.
When and if you change, write back and let me know what you think.

Just the loader would be difference enough to switch. I know little about the 990, much about the 790.

Trade. I went from a 790 to 4300 to the best 990 in the world! Get it great design.

I should have warned you- Mike is a salesman... and a good one at that. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I looked at a 990 long and hard when I bought my 790. I went back RIGHT before it came in to see about an upgrade... the sale was over- I would have had to shell out another 5 grand or so. Had that sale still been going on, I would be on a 990 now. For me, the 790 is fine. It has done all that I have asked it to without any gripe, lip, or grumble. For you, I say go for it, buddy.
Maybe in a few years when we start outgrowing this 790 I can convince Amy to go for it... I just don't know if I can ever find a good reason to upgrade... not to her satisfaction, anyway. There's only so much work to be done on a 10 acre goat farm, and as hard as I've tried, I haven't found a job where I could justify the extra horsies yet.
Congrats!

Well, I guess I will be sticking with my 790 for another year or so. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif The dealer said he would give me 10k for my 790 and wanted $18,100.00 for the 990 with the 430 loader. that's $8100.00 out of my pocket that I just can't justify right now. The CFO just won't go for that one this year. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yup, I've known Mike for about 3 years. He has sold me my 757 and my HD 45 Mowers. Mike doesn't use high pressure or a lot of talk. He just leaves the keys in the equipment. He lets the equipment make their own sale!! No mumbo jumbo from him! That's why I like dealing with him. He's honest, does what he says he is going to do and will bend over backwwards to help you any way he can.

The JD dealer I work for was only going to give me 10.5 for my 01 4300 gear shift last summer on trade for my 990. We really have to wait awhile so our tractors don't depreciate as much. The resale will eventually even out after a few years.
