My 850 is 2400 lbs, 22 hp. 2WD, gears, turf tires. And more than 30 years old! I want/need 4WD, R4's, HST.
I like the size; what is today's equivalent in JD and Kubota- I'm 20 min. from each dealer.

I have had my 850 for 20 years and decided to trade up, the model I liked, as a replacement is a JD 3320. I like the shuttle shift but have to try the hydro to be sure, more options available on the hydro. For me it is great to be able to get on and off easily, my arthritis limits being able to use the 850 some days.

Don't know about the Kubota but I would think I would not shy away from either the 2520 or the 2720 would look at the 2320 also, what the heck.

In the Kubota lineup, I would consider the Kubota B2630 or B3030. The Bxx20 Series does not have position control which is important to me. I like the 3-speed transmission on the Kubota.

I am sure you will probably be happy either way you go. Some prefer the controls on a Kubota and some on the John Deere. I don't like left foot braking and some do. We have a John Deere and I used a 425 for years to mow and I don't have trouble with the HST controls on either.

Good luck.

Two years ago, I went from a 1985 JD 750 4WD, FELD to a JD 2320 4WD, FELD.
Very happy with my upgrade. The 2320 is a little more tractor than the 750 was but yet still about the same physical size.
There are times I wish I had gone a little bigger, but yet most of the time the 2320 is just right for my needs.

I am going to encourage you to look at the Kubota B3200 or the B3300 depending on your need. I went through the same thing when I was looking for a new tractor. I originally purchased the B3200 with smaller tires and a mid pto. I traded that in and got the B3300su, with bigger tires and no mid pto. I will tell you why I went with the kubota, and believe me...I am meticulous about quality and function.
My neighbor owns a JD 3320, friends own a 3032e, 2720. My other neighbor owns a Tc33. I am familiar with all of these tractors. The 3320 is a very nice unit, but $10,000 more than the kubota. The 3032e is a JD economy tractor with very cheap fit and finish. The hood and fenders are plastic. No QA loader, and no option for a backhoe. The 2720 is a nice unit all around, but as far as power goes, it does not compare to my B3300. Check out the specs on each tractor on tractor data.com.
Hope this helps

Cool, I went from a 1988 JD650 to the JD2320 three years ago this May.....What a difference!
The only thing I don't really like is the new backhoe, but I do not use it much any more so I learned to live with it.
