I get a lot of adverts for
MOULTRIE Game Spy A-5 Gen2 Low Glow IR 5 MP Digital Game Camera
and seriously considering installing one.

Question I have is how good would this be as a security cam at my driveway entrance ?
It gets below 0 often during winter, what is battery life like in cold.

Used comments would be appreciated.

I've used a fewer Moultrie cams over the past fewer years.

The battery life is always worse than advertised but it's reasonable.

You can add rechargeables and a solar charger to most and that makes them almost indefinite.

They will attract spiders and dust so you need to keep them cleaned at least monthly.

It's a cheap turn-key way to have a camera and you'll have to check the SD card for pics unless you just need something for those times when you think someone may be messing around or leaves ruts or destroys a fence or something.

Another option is a dash cam in a camera box (rain proof) and a solar panel and battery to power it. They use very little juice and are easy to use, full HD, etc.

Also a security camera that has built in SD card slot. Most IP cameras have these nowadays and will also sip juice maybe 150mah which a solar panel and small sealed battery will easily do as well as last all night.

Sometimes people think game cameras are there for the taking whereas a "security" camera system is more of a deterrent. They spot them, know they've been recorded, and take off.

With the IP camera you could run a Cat6 cable out there, buried and monitor it live from the house with a recorder box but that adds cost.

The battery powered option allows you to view the SD card later and no wires.

All three options can be had for about 150 or so.

With any game camera;Lithium Batteries will last much longer and not be effected by the cold. They are expensive but well worth it.I just pulled cards on three of my cameras with a total of about 350 20 second videos.Cameras have been out since August and have taken thousands of videos and the batteries are still good.
I have tried a lot of cameras but currently running two Brownings(black flash) and two Bushnel (infared).Black flash is invisible to humans but has less capabilities at night.Still o.k. but not as good as infa-red at night. Both have decent day time pictures.
