I'm interested in everyone's recommendation in trailer size for a 33hp tractor with FEL and attachments.
I have a New Holland TC33DA and have been trying to locate the most practical and versatile trailer. I will tow with 2006 F-250 with 5.4L.
I'm interested in length of trailer, goose-neck vs. bumper hitch, car hauler vs. bed-over, ect.
What is your experience and what would you recommend? I have found trailers to be a costly investment and want to make the right choice.
Thanks,
Clearly, some good advice here already. I would add the following:
1) Pay attention to the truck manufacturer's tow rating for the truck and stick to it come heck or high water. Can get pretty scary if you don't. Upgrade the hitch, if necessary, to the very best you can find (Putnam XDR?). Cheap insurance.
2) Rather than focusing on the lowest trailer GVWR rating that will work, I recommend going with the highest trailer GVWR rating that will work, consistent with your truck's rated towing capacity.
3) Pay extreme attention to tires... size, type, brand. Most OEM trailer tires are marginal, undersized junk if not outright dangerous. After a recent double tire blowout with same... and resulting equipment, insurance and legal hassles... I found religion. Religion to me is a high-quality, steel-belted radial tire with a sufficiently high ply rating & load rating that it will not blow out if the other tire on that same side suddenly gets a flat and overloads it. Tractors are too expensive these days to have to pick one up off its side on the highway.

i have a b3030 TLb, i haul it on a 18' car hauler trailer. pulls great rides great BUT, i would rather have at least a 20' with a 10k or 12k rating so i could haul a brush hog or something. I got lucky and got my trailer dirt cheep, spent some money on it and have used the heck out of it. i am watching and waiting for a deal on what i need now.
happy shoppin

I went from a 14' to an 18' to a 22' trailer. Now I wish I had bought at least a 24' gooseneck trailer. Trying to save on fuel, I loaded my x495 mower and 2520 with lx5 to cut two places on the same trip. I had to put the loader bucket on the side of the trailer next to the mower. JC

I have the same tractor and tow it with a 7000# 18 foot (overall) PJ trailer with 2' dovetail. If I was going to do it again, I think I would skip the dovetail. I only use the trailer to haul the tractor or round bales, and the dovetail doesn't help with either. With FEL and box blade, the tractor is a tight fit on the 16' flat section of the trailer.

as others have mentioned when i started doing the math on my TC, i figured out that a 7K wasnt going to cut it

im planning for a 18' (perhaps 2' dovetail for 20' total) 10K trailer.

as others have mentioned.... dry weight on the tractor alone isnt THAT much, but then add loaded tires or rear wheel weights, a FEL, BB, and 5' brush hog and your weight nearly doubles...

im likely going to go with an "equipment" trailer, which usually feature a beafer frame and higher load range tires. (the trade off of weight and cost)

mine will have no sides, but stake pockets, front "crash bar" and ample tonge space for a tonge tool box to house a winch and battery, straps, misc tools.

Yeah, I kinda agree with you about the dovetails. All they do for me is drag on the ground and/or pavement courtesy of the new "Grand Canyon" that the town built for me when they reconstructed (and heavily crowned) the road in front of my house and steep driveway. I later talked with the equipment trailer manufacturer on another issue and he informed me that I could have ordered my trailer without the dovetail for the same price. Means a slightly different ramp design apparently, but WOW... what I wouldn't give for that choice now!!!

Funny how fast it can add up, heh? ;)

Just pay very close attention to those dang tires. If an upgrade 16" tire is available for cheap from the manufacturer or dealer, spring for it!
