Trailer Mower - Who has them?

I have a Krone AM323S disc cutter in a KMC caddy. It has served me well. Not that we have two tractors to cut hay, I am thinking I might want to add another hay cutter. I was thinking of just getting 3 point mower, but the ease of hook up is nice. So I looked at caddies then I saw the trailed mowers. Kuhn, Krone, Vermeer, etc. They all seem to make them. Of course the monster Vermeer TM 1400 would be out of this world.

Any comments on new disc mower and trailed mower?

My friend has a Vermeer TM800. It seems to do a good job cutting very similar to my Vermeer 7030 with a caddy. I think the cutter bars are identical. I like the quick change blades on mine. For ease of attaching to tractor and the fact it will follow contour of the ground better I'd never go back to a 3 pt attached model. I had another neighbor with a pull type Vicon with 3 blades per rotor. I couldn't tell the Vicon cut any better than a 2 blade cutter.

I really iike my caddy. Makes me think why not get a factory done one next time. I need to take some measurements but ti sure seems the storage size of these trail mower is huge. I wonder how they will deliver it.

The monster Vermeer Tm 1200 and TM 1400 are really impressive.

ive priced the new krone 9ft an 10.5ft cutters an caddies.an its close to $15000.an pulltype mowers are $15000 used.so i dont know wich way ill go till i get ready to buy 1.but i know this it wont be a 3pt mower.

One advantage of a 3 pt cutter on a caddy is one can update the cutter to a new model and keep using the same caddy.

I have a Kuhn 3150 trailed mower with the drawbar hitch & really like it.We had been running discbine's for several years & swiched to this when we traded last year. We cut around 1200 acres per year.

All pretty close. The krone is well made. Kuhn has a lot of near engineering. Vermeer quick change blade is slick.

I haven't checked Kuhn's spec's but is the Kuhn cutter bar still one piece as in not segmented? If so that would be a good reason for me not to buy a Kuhn. I know Kuhn has an excellent performance record but the thought of splitting the cutter bar to replace gears still brings NIGHTMARE's for me.

we ran a krone 283s i think is the number for 5 or 6yrs.an we loved it.let it set for 2yrs then sold it to a buddy of mine who ran it till last year.then he sold it,an i think its still cutting hay.an its almost 20yrs old.

Kuhn bar is one piece although it does have shear hub protection on the disc's.The closest krone or new Holland dealers are about an hour away,the Kuhn dealer is 6 miles.
We used 1411 nh discbines for about 15 years before this Kuhn.It got to the point that me & my son could tear down,fix,& reassemble it in the field as good as any New Holland mechanic so we decided to try something different.So far we have been very satisfied with the performance.

I bought a new Kuhn GMD 3150 TL back in March & I really like it. It is easy to hook up & does a good job cutting. I gave $14,000 for it.

There's a Kuhn FC 243 RTG trailed disc mower conditioner here that my wife bought used back in the early Spring. It's done a great job so far. She and my son paid $9k for it. Only problem so far is the rollers have started to delaminate, we think from dry rot. Not sure the previous owner was completely honest on what he told us about the mower, I think it had more exposure to heat than he let on. Like I said it's working great so far on about 75 acres but she is facing a $4500 to $5000 repair bill now for new rollers. It loves to mow and it seems the more you feed into it the better it likes it. It's normally pulled with a CaseIH 5140 Maxxum but the fields were just to wet for that much weight. I think you need to offer the rest of us men folks some advice. Just how do you get the wife to buy the machine as well as pick up the tab on the repairs when needed? That premise is something the rest of us men folk definitely need to know (LOL).

:laughing: The farm is in a Trust. It'll be our sons in another year. My name isn't on the operation at all. She and her late Father ran the Dairy for many, many decades until 2003 and they switched to beef cows. The decision making comes down to her for now. Son is planning on getting into some cash crops next year instead of just hay for the 42 head of cattle. Farming is in her blood and I don't think she'll ever be able to quit farming. She starting looking after Holsteins at about age 7.

She and her Dad had been mowing with a 472 HayBine for about 30 years and she finally got to see a disc mower conditioner run and wanted to try one but wanted to keep her HayBine so she found this used one and picked it up. After she mowed with it I don't think the HayBine will see much daylight again.

I run a Vicon CM2400,the 3blades just allows to run bigger cutter with lessHP. I didnt cut out corners and slowed down for video. Usually just run calves in this little pasture,beside my 30acre meadow but desided to cut for video,since had wife around.
