Ok guys need suggestions on what to buy for a trailer to move a small tractor ?
3K Tractor + a couple of Attachments.
Need brake
Light weight - aluminum ???
Narrow if possible
Thks
You need a 7,000# car hauler. Remember, a trailers weight class must also support the weight of the trailer itself along with the load. So lets say you get a 16' 7,000# car hauler. It may weight 2,000# empty so it can legally and safely haul a 5,000# load as long as your truck is up to it. Aluminum will save you a few pounds but cost about twice as much.
I would skip narrow. Very limited use. Get something you can use for many tasks including the rescue of broken down cars, ect.
The main thing with a tractor is to measure it with the loader down and the biggest implement you have then add about 3' to that length. That is the length of the trailer you will need to secure and balance the load properly. You tie down chains will need a angle to do the job hence the longer trailer.
Biggest mistake most people make is getting just barely enough trailer, me included.
In my opinion a 7,000# trailer with a modern 1/2 ton truck is just fine. Brakes on one axle is ok for a 7,000# trailer but anything bigger get brakes on both. Of course brakes on both is always better.
According to my trailer towing guide book brakes are not even required in Mass. May want to check on that but I would want them and it seems like you do also.
