Does any body have information on tags for trailers from the state of Maine. Someone told me about it a few years ago and I forgot who. Any thing would be helpful since our state everything expires end of Dec.
What is it you want to know? All you have to do is go to your town or city office where you register your car and renew them.If you have the old registration it is a very simple thing to do.If it is a home made trailor like mine was than they will want to know the axle capacity etc. etc. and the color, you use to have the option to register for 2 years not sure you can still do that.
Good Luck,
Are you planning on moving to Maine? I don't think you can register a vehicle, trailer included, without being a Maine resident and having a Maine address. You can register trailers for one or two years at a time, and unless they've changed it, all trailer tags expire in February regardless of when you register them.

Actually that depends on your weight rating. If you have a regular utility trailer registered for 2000 lbs the reg will expire in one or 2 years, depending on how much you pay. If you have a heavier trailer (I.E., to haul your tractor) you can only register it for 1 year at a time; and it will indeed expire in Feb. With a heavier trailer you are also supposed to have your tow vehicle registered for the weight of the loaded trailer as well; and there's a lot of other bull-
ER, stuff you have to deal with.
As others have indicated I don't believe you can register unless you are a resident.
In reference to trailer reg. periods heavier trailers ( ie. 10,000 lbs. +) they can be reg. for 2 yr. also. Trailers rated for 10,000 lbs. or more are required to have a commercial inspection. The truck does have to be reg. for the total weight of the truck, it's load, the trailer, and it's load. If that is more than 10,000 lbs. then the truck needs to have a commercial inspection sticker.
yamahauler, what is it that you are trying to do? You can't get a Maine plate without being a Maine resident.
If you are buying a trailer in Maine and want to haul it back to NY, then maybe your town clerk can issue you a 'transit plate'. That's what I did when I bought a trailer on ebay and went to SC to pick it up. I went to my town clerk with the make, model, and serial number and they issued me a transit plate, which gave me safe passage from SC back to Maine. Think it cost me about $20.
I know a guy who has an equipment trailer he keeps registered in Maine. I forgot why, cheaper I guess. I think if you know someone with a Maine address, you can get by. The troopers know about it, and they give him a good going over when he gets pulled over. Apparently it's legal. He still does it.
