Trailer Tie Down of PT422/425

I have been using racket straps to hold my PT422 to the trailer. I use one in the front, wrap it around the main lift arm bar and then each end is hooked to the hold down brackets. I then loop the same type strap through the open sections of the back of the PT or through the bolt on the hitch. This does not sound quite right. How are others tying their PT Down.

When my 422 was delivered, they had a strap on each side near the middle.

I have a big hook on the front frame half(like on MossRoads site) and I put two straps to the trailer hitch on the back of the PT(until I weld 2 D-rings on the back end)

After having tried many methods of securing race cars and motorcycles over the years, I have opted for the following method for the PT:

For the FRONT, I use two 22" axle straps { AWDirect.com - TYS-51 Tie-Down Axle Straps }, looping one around the lowermost ROPS on each side, where the tubular section flares to form the bolting plate. I then clip the spring latch hook of a 2" tie down { AWDirect.com - TYS–27 Auto Tie Down Straps } through both rings of the axle strap on one side, and secure the other latch hook to an outboard D-ring in the trailer deck. Repeat with a second 2" tie down on the opposite side. Then I ratchet the front tie downs evenly and securely. The axle strap to the lower ROPS is the key. It is secure with a WLL of 3,000# each, will not mar the ROPS, and has an ideal height to provide optimal vectors of downward, foward and outward pull.

For the REAR, I clip the latch hooks of two more 2" tie downs to the welded hitch ring on the rear of the PT (or around the captive hitch pin), clip the other ends to the rear outboard deck D-rings, and then ratchet securely.

I can secure the PT to the tandem trailer in 5 minutes, and I have traveled from NC to Tazewell (~200 miles 1-way) on twisty, mountain roads, without any problems.

I mounted a hook on the front of my PT425 and use one chain that goes from each side of the trailer through the hook. I then back up the unit until it is snug. Then I set the brake and get off the tractor. Then I run one chain through the rear hitch and to each side of the trailer. Then I release the braked and ratchet it down snug with a load binder on the rear chain. Then I set the brake again, just in case a chain fails.

I run a chain from one side of the trailer, over the lift arm where it attaches to the tractor, and use a load binder to tighten it to the other side of the trailer.

Well, then you should invest in a pair or quartet of GoJaks { AWDirect.com - GJ-5000 GoJak Vehicle Moving Jacks }. We got a pair to assist us with turning our tandem axle trailer around in a limited space. They're the bees knees, for sure.

My thanks to everyone for their comments. I decided to use the axle straps around the ROPS supports (thanks Trac Doc) for the front. I made a tie down bracket which I mounted to my rear 2 inch receiver. Basically this allows me to use straps with hooks or chain link. When pulling a trailer I will be able hook up it's chains as well.

While I was at it, I made the same bracket for the 2 inch receiver quick attach plate.
