Hello,

I have a dump trailer with a screw type jack, the telescoping members being about 2 inches square in cross section. It's welded to the tongue. I think I bent the lower component and need to get it out to straighten it. If I can lift the tongue high enough with a loader, will the lower component separate from the screw if I crank the screw far enough? Otherwise, I guess you would need to disassemble the screw mount from the top?

Thanks,

jmc

Some will. Some won't. Good luck.

Usually the end of the thread is secured so it won't come all the way out.
If you crank it all the way down then unfasten the top parts it should come out.

It probably has a C-clip at the top; mine does. I just disassembled both my tongue jack and tail jacks to clean & lube. I was quite surprised at how much rust had accumulated in there. Wire brushing and lithium grease - and they're like new all over again :)

Remove retainer, be it a c-clip, pin whatever. You'll be able to see more when you remove the crank handle. Then unscrew it all the way down and it'll drop out when you lift the front of the trailer.

Tip - I used a cordless drill to unscrew mine - save a LOT of cranking. Same for reassembly.

Thanks, All. It did disassemble by releasing the top and sliding out the bottom. Bent and a little rusty. Works good now after straightening and lubing with marine grease. Now to keep it that way:
