I have a 3040....there is a wiring harness (male plug end) at the back, just below the fuel tank. is this for trailer wiring? if so, is there a female end that can be purchased to complete the wiring?

thought I should check before cutting it off & wiring in my own trailer / accessory plug.

By the way..love the 3040...big enough to move round bales on the 3pt hitch to feed the horses & small enought to mow grass around the house.....perfect

Being a 3040 owner with 102 hours, I look forward to your answers to the plug question.

I was surprised to hear you move rounds. What size do you move, small or large?

our round bales are approx 5' to 6' diameter. As for weight...not exactly sure. I have been told anything from 1100 to 1400lbs. (depending on how tight they are rolled & how dry they are.

I test drove several other compacts & tried to move bales on the 3pt, but only the Montana had the best lift capacity (and cost) in the 28 to 33 HP range.

Thanks Jughead. Did you buy a factory spear for the 3 pt.? If not where do you recommend?

3pt spear was a freebie from the neighbor.....I never looked to see who manufactured it. We should be getting some bales in the next few weeks or so, I'll post some photos then.

well, some more research with the dealer seems to say there is no harness available for the 3040...the "R" series tractors have a completed trailer harness (saw it at the dealer)

so I'll cut off the old and start splicing wires

It amazes me that a manufacturer of distributor could sell a product and not provide the requisite accessories. POOR JOB MONTANA!!!!!!

On the other hand, many brands won't even have the wires back there at all!

Oh! I guess that makes it acceptable.

Don't get me wrong, as a dealer, I would love to be able to hand a customer the other end of that plug!! We all know that somewhere out there is a match for that thing but I also bet I don't have 2% of my customers using those wires and those that do, can make them match their needs if it be four pin flat or any of the 5 or 7 pins out there. Even if there was the other half available, it would only serve to make an adapter out of and end up with one more connection to fail!
