Hello All - hope everyone is well. So I got through the summer and fall with my new PT and got to do plenty of projects with downed trees and moving dirt... still not really satisfied with the mowing aspects (but shame on me for trying to grow grass in the woods on a sandy plot)...

I had some leaky hoses over the summer, but really didn't think much of it - just tightened them and moved on. Well at my 50th hour, I replaced the filter and noticed that the hydraulic fluid was super low, but didn't really notice the machine acting differently. I filled it back up and I noticed that it took a long time to clear the air out of the system, but the bubbles eventually stopped.

Now it is much colder now, but the PT is kept in a heated shed, albeit ~50 degrees. When I first fire her up she won't really stop when going forward (or backward) and then moving the treadle to neutral - much different than before the change (though I'm not sure if that was the cause or not as it could be the cold).

When it warms up after 10 to 15 minutes it is better, but still not as 'jerky' as when I first got her.

Any ideas? I read some posts here about a tram adjustment, but the problems didn't sound exactly the same. Maybe there is still some air sitting around somewhere? Maybe the pump is damaged... wouldn't think so, but wanted to get everyone's thoughts.

Thanks in advanced.

Can't help you much on that one. Mine is a cable controlled treadle and yours is a hydraulically controlled treadle. Don't know an adjustment procedure for yours. I'd call Terry at PT tomorrow and talk it over with him.

Well you most likely have one of the new PTs with the upgraded main pump so I can't help you with that but try useing a leaf blower up and around your treadle. Take the covers off and give it a good cleaning in there. I hade this happen and it was a stupid little stick that got up in there. I would try that first and see what you find out.

There is a certain amount of delayed response just due to cold oil.

I’d ask Terry, but it sounds to me like you have air in your treadle system. IIRC, you have to unscrew the lines at the treadle, and flush oil through them.

All the best,

Peter

Slow response is normal in cold temps until it warms up. But at 50°, it should not be too bad.
