My 70's craftsman's tranny makes some grinding noises and I was wondering if there is tranny fluid that you change? since this maybe the cause of the grinding

I think 35 years is a good reason for the tranny to grind a little bit /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
If it has a drain plug its likely to be on the bottom, take a look there if there isnt one there dont worry bout it.

I have a Wheelhorse that ginds, it isnt a problem mostly, pulled it apart and there was nothing wrong with it.

PS, read your thread about the exhaust, glowing red is wicked man! So how much more does the throttle open, or did the governor 'fall' off? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

the input shaft bearings are likely bad. that sounds to me like what the problem is. there are 2 needle bearings on the input shaft. the transaxle has to be taken off and broke apart.

check if there is play in your large pully on top of the tranaxle. shake it up and down. the bearing are reasonably easy to replace. while you are in there you should regrease your gears. it more than likely uses just regular grease. very few transaxles use 90W gear oil.

be sure to not lose your steel balls that fits on your shifter inside your transaxle.

mith, I removed the throttle/choke cable since the carb I put on it did not fit with them. My first ride on it I had a spring on the throttle that held it wide open as far as it could. But the engine revved a lot and I figured if I ran it for too long this way I would kill the engine so I bavcked the throttle off a little bit and it still goes pretty fast.
