I just bought a used 1440 shuttle shift and the trans stopped working. I loosened up the clutch linkage to see if that would help to no avail. When the clutch is not engaged you can hear the trans spinning inside quietly. The trans is full of oil. The tractor acts like it is stuck in nuetral and is making no grinding noises and still shifts smoothly. I have tried shifting all of the other levers in all positions also and that did not work either. Help!

All right, I am getting somewhere. I touch a test light to the left power shuttle electrical switch outer spade on the steering column and I get foward movement and I touch the test light to the outer spade on the right side of the column and I get reverse. Still not sure what to replace or is it a bad ground somewhere?

All grounds have been removed and cleaned, All fuses are good, removed dash cluster to get at relays, tried to bypass them to no avail. I called three dealers and they dont know what to tell me either. I believe that the electrical switches on the column for the shuttle lever are good. I hate to start throwing parts at this thing if they are not the problem.

Use a multi-meter to test the switches on the column.
Another thing. Check to see if the wires are on the solenoids on the left side of the transmission under the platform. They need to be zip tied up good, but sometimes they aren't. Good luck

With tractor in low range and low gear, push in on boot at end of solenoid (either fwd or rev solenoid). This is a mecahinical overried of the solenoid. If tractor moves, problem is definately electrical. Check continuity between shuttle switches on steering column and shuttle solenoid when shuttle lever is engaged (tractor doesn't need to be running).

Thanks for all of the replies guys, I got it figured out. If I changed the mounting of the wires on the power shuttle electrical switches, located under the steering column trim, (there are two wires going to three spades per switch and only two spades are used per switch), I was able to make it work. Continuity tests, performed with a multimeter, showed all of the switches and relays were working, but would nothing would allow this tractor to move without performing this wire crossing guessing game.

Not knowing what the actual problem was, I then replaced these power shuttle switches, (located on the steering column), and all of the relays and the brain box under the dash cluster, and all was well again. It cost me about $400 in parts, but no crossing of wires was necessary. The tractor worked fine for a few days. But now the clutch needs to be replaced. Go figure.

p.s. I hate electrical problems
