I am looking at an International 3414 TLB.
It will not go in gear. The dealer is telling me that it has a broken shifter fork.
He says it is a common problem with this model and is not hard to repair.
Does anyone have any experience with this issue
Thanks
Mike

Mike I gotta ask the obvious: If it's a shifter fork, and it is an easy fix, why the heck doesn't the dealer do it?

He said he picked up the unit at an estate auction.

He is now in combine season and doesn't have time to work on it.

Have you ever worked on the trans on one of these??

It is supposed to have a removable plate that makes this an easy repair.

I am just trying not to get ANOTHER project.

Thanks
Mike

The shifter fork is attached to the shifter and comes out when you remove the cover, just remove and replace, piece of cake.

How can you tell if everything else works if you can't move the tractor. Tell the dealer to fix it and you will come back and check it out. Otherwise stay away from it. Just remember it always starts out as a deal and turns in to a nightmare.

Mornin Mike,
I have to agree with Hooked on HP !!! For you to purchase that equipment and find out down the road that its something more involved than the shifter fork is unacceptable IMHO. Especially from a dealer. If you were buying from a private party then that another bird !!! And another arrangement!

I agree. The 'ran when parked' concept is generally one of the 'great lies'

I may have to use that line someday.
I am going to look at 2 machines tomorrow.
Maybe I'll get lucky on one of them
Thanks for all the info and input.

If the price is right, well below market value and this type of "deal" is up your alley, go for it. When I was a kid, i would look for cars that had blown head gaskets, knocking engines and what ever would get me the car for a steel. As others have said, pull the cover and see if that is the issue and if you can get it in to gear.

I'll bet he doesn't have much in it if bought at auction with known problem.
