I have decided to buy a JD 4310 with FEL for moving snow and hauling logs...also tilling and brushhogging. My question is What is the differnce between the standard transmission "SyncShift" and the optional ones, "ePower reverser" and "eHydro". Are they worth the extra cost and upkeep???

The sync/shift transmission is more like a traditional gear drive transmission, with 3 forward gears and 1 reverse gear, with 3 ranges , leaving you with a 9/3 configuration. My thought on this transmission it works well in warmer climates, but when it gets close to 0 degrees, it shifts hard.

The e power reverser is new. But the basic transmission has been around for awhile. It was 4 gears, with 3 ranges leaving a 12/12 config. You can shift from forward to reverse without the clutch with a lever, making it a great transmission for loader work.

The e-hydro is also new, but they have had hydros for years. Best for performance and convenience, and they seem to hold up under normal conditions just fine. 3 ranges with pedal operation makes this very simple to operate.

Now the bad--the e power reverser is $1200 more and the e hydro is $2400 more (at list) than the sync shift.

I hope this helps you and doesn't confuse you more.

Mutt, I wish you had been here last year when I bought my 5410. Great information and I agree with the sync. transmission in the cold being harder to shift in the cold weather. It's not bad but I can tell a difference since I began fooling with it during this winter. By they way is there anything I should being watching out for or pay close attention to in my tractor model?

Have you ordered the 4310 as yet? Would love to hear from you when it arrives -- my tentative choice thus far, but still looking. Which loader, tiller, other implements did you decide on? Keep me posted.

I have not ordered yet but close...still checking Kubota 3010...but leaning toward JD. I am looking at eHydro with MX5 cutter, 430 loader, and 550 tiller for now. My biggest worry is that the FEL will not do the job for snow removal...I have a very steep long driveway in Western Mass. I am also getting a spreader to spread deicer.

So, I would appreciate any ideas if FEL does not work out...perhaps a Curtis plow attachement for FEL?

Also...does anyone have any data on reliability of these electronic Hydro transmissions...how do the JD's compare to Kubota's for repairs etc.

The "old" hydrostatics in the 4X00 series had their share of problems. While shopping for my tractor and trying NH and JD, neither had a HST that I felt was as good as the Kubota. I suspect that JD has improved on the HST because of what my local JD dealer reported to me as a real warranty problem for JD's hydrostatics. I surely would look at the new JD's if I were still in the market for a tractor, but hopefully, my tractor shopping days are done for good. Rat...
