Hi, can I use multi purpose or high grade transmission fluid in a l2501 hydrostatic Kubota Tractor instead of Kubota Brand Fluid? Thanks a bunch

A multi purpose hyd/trans oil that meets major manufacturers specs is fine.

Stick with Kubota's SUDT2. I don't think you'll find anything else that meets their criteria and the HST is very finicky about what fluid you use. If you use anything else your warranty will be void.

Thanks, I’m really just trying to avoid a 45 min. Trek to Kubota Dealership. Well I guess I can ponder the political course of our country along the way. Adios

One 45 min trip less costly than putting the wrong fluid in or you can order it on Amazon or from Messicks for home delivery.

Any high quality Multi Purpose Hydraulic Transmission Fluid will work, the higher quality fluids seem to generate less noise, heat and whining from the hydrostatic transmissions.
There will not be much difference in price or availability of high quality lubricants.

Nit necessarily. So long as the fluid meets the Kubota spec, if there is a mechanical failure, the onus falls on the dealer and Kubota to prove the fluid was the cause.

Having said that, my last Kubota (long gone) was a 5030 HSTC as well as all my previous Kubota's (8 in total), all hydrostats and not one of them had Kubota fluid in them, always Chevron All Weather THC and never an issue. What I use in both my M9's presently as well.

It’s always a crapshoot at my local auto supply stores of Tractor Supply stores as to what hydraulic fluid they will have in stock as well as to whether the are truly equivalent to Kubota fluids.

As LouNY pointed out there is not that much difference in price of high quality fluids. However regarding local availabilty, not so much!

i know where I can get the Kubota fluids and I know they will have it in stock.

And in my case it is a nice relaxed drive and some pretty scenary.
