Transmission shaft on a JD 420 - shot!!

Anyone know where to get a trans shaft cheaper than JDParts.com ? They want $550. the yoke from the drive shaft has worn the teeth on the trans shaft. And the drive shaft then in turn wobbles, Which in turn vibrates the whole tractor. Any suggestions? I originally thought it was the u joints but they are solid and in good shape.

I would try a search in salvage yards or look for a parts machine.

I would search eBay. I think I saw one on there a couple days ago. Just make sure you know what trans you need. Not sure if they used diff models.in the 420.

I have a repair manual. Looks like it would be more difficult to change the shaft rather than the whole transmission !!

Once you have the rear fenders off everything is fairly straight forward. What part is worn out the drive shaft yoke or the input shaft in the trams.

I believe both. The yoke is loose on the trans shaft. I took the drive shaft off and they both look worn or a little chewed up. I know I will need a new yoke. And I know the trans shaft doesn't look right. Boy they sure made all those splines tiny back then
