- Ford 1920
A while back I posted a problem about my 1910 ford. It (manual trans) had a severe drag in all gears as if it was pulling a 55 bottom plow, and even in neutral it would chug backwards with each piston firing. i got no answers to the problem but i believed it to be a synchro problem which everyone disagreed with. i finally got the tractor apart and sure enough, bad reverse/2nd synchros. In fact one of the 3 keys that apply pressure to the synchro lock out rings had sheared and tore the heck out of the reverse synchro ring which was then left partially engaged. One thing i did find out is that replacement parts such as these are virtually extinct, and only a world wide parts search found one of the few remaining sets left. The keys are long extinct, so 6 hours of machining and heattreating in the shop solved that problem. If anyone else comes up with the same problem, i wish the best of luck finding the parts.
