Trapping nuisence birds

Need to get rid of the flocks of sparrows that plague the place.

Traps are frowned upon in England and they are difficult to buy, Cartriges are expensive and I dont have an air gun any more.

Any body made a decent trap for small birds.

They always have been, no grain here or anything else that attracts them. They nest in the out buildings.
We filled all the holes with expanding foam so as they couldn't get in but they just pecked it out and made a **** of a mess.

Too many of them so they have to go.

Had the same problem when I was a lad but my dad bought us all an air rifle and we picked them off with those.

Sparrows are easy to trap.

I have used two different kinds of trap's.

One was just a rectangle= frame work and small mesh wire, with a funnel at ground level on each side made out of the same small mesh wire, put small grain in trap ,works well.

Second type was of the same rectangle shape and materials but no bottom wire and used small trenches dug under the sides for the birds to enter , once inside they never look down ,works just as good but harder to dispose of your catch. When I was kid just about every ranch in the SW had traps like this for Quail to feed guest's that showed up on Sunday, so they could save there chooks for family.
