Trapping Rabbits

I have had a baby rabbit in my garage for 6 days now and I can't get him to leave on his own. So yesterday I set the only live trap I have, a large coon trap. I bated it with some lettuce and thin strips of carrots but he didn't go for it.

What can I use for bate that is irresistible to rabbits?

Or an even better question, how can I get rid of him? I would think by now he would be hungry enough to leave when the doors are open for a few hours but that hasn't worked yet.

Friend who is a critter relocator told me always uses oatmeal cookies to trap the critters.

I think you'd be better off just leaving the door open, wild rabbits eat far different than pen raised. I have been to a animal re-hab and they feed native forage to wild bunnies and still the mortality is almost 95% (when injured). Might get some help and a couple of sheets and make a "walking wall" and herd it out??

I checked the trap just now and found that hungry baby rabbits like lettuce and carrot strips and, just like me, they have a bowel movement after they eat. :laughing: But they are not heave enough to trip a coon trap. The little guy had a bad day though, I found him laying dead about 2 feet outside the trap.

I thought I was going to get some oatmeal cookies out of the deal but now we'll stick to chocolate chip.

For future reference, wait until it is just dark outside, turn on the outside lights and open the garage door part way, then flush the rabbit from its hiding place. It will run toward the light. Birds do the same, except open the garage door all the way for birds. I've done this many times because for some reason our garage catches rabbits and birds with some frequency and the occasional raccoon (they get dealt with much differently)

We caught a baby rabbit one time...thought it was one someone let go as a pet, then we realized it was a wild rabbit. It loved broccoli, didn't bother much for carrots and the like. Liked cabbage....it was broccoli it loved.
