I have another thread going about draining my 3/4 acre pond to clean out the muck. i used a 4" siphon system to drain the majority of the pond but a siphon won't work on the last bit of water. So, I need a trash pump.

After looking online at TSC, Southern States, Lowes. Home Depot.. etc.. I have come to the conclusion that there are no trash pumps to be had for under $400 that are not chinese made pieces of crap. What ever happened to the basic Briggs and Stratton trash pumps that would actually run more than a few days?

Maybe you guys have some opinions on a few of these pumps. or more precisely, the motors on these pumps. Does anyone have any experience with :

Champion Power Equipment --- from Home Depot

Red Lion Pumps -- from TSC

I look forward to seeing the responses as I am in the same boat, so to speak.

Do you have a generator? If so, sump pumps are cheap and will move an impressive amount of water per minute. Wrap some screen wire around the base of it and tie it to the side of a canoe- or tie it to a 16' 4x4 and lower the top portion into the water with the excavator arm.

I use a Tsurumi Trash pump with a Honda engine for my pond. Always starts easy and only quits when she run out of gas or I shut it off. As small 4 cycle gas engines go, nothing beats a Honda in my eyes.

I don't have the Red Lion brand but I have been running a semi trash three inch Chinese pump for over five years now with a knock off 6 1/2 hp generic motor. I have abused it, used it to irrigate gardens, control fires, water ice rinks, pump out flooded areas etc. I change the oil every year cause the motor runs about as hot as a three dollar pistol but starts with one pull on choke every time  -- I bought the pump on a clearout one fall for about $150 so figured if it lasted a year I would be lucky. My buddy bought the same one and has had the same experience.
I bought an 1 1/2 inch last year of the same make (Power Fist the Canadian version of HF)
Try it -- you will probably be surprised and if it does burn out in two days you can take it back

Check with Home Depot rental. They were willing to sale me a used rental one the other day for less than I could just buy the hose for
