Reiner Huttasch, a theatre technician from the town of Bellach, is making his retirement dream come true by travelling around Europe on his Buhler tractor, made in Switzerland 54 years ago. He reached the Icelandic port of Seydisfjordur by ferry from Denmark, and plans to circumnavigate the North Atlantic island's scenic coastal road.

So far he has spent 10 weeks driving through Germany and Denmark, and plans to move on to Britain, Belgium and France before returning home. Mr Huttasch expects the round journey to take six months, ......

Not much different than doing what you would do on a Harley here, but slower.

I like the idea! Nice slow pace to see the countryside and meet people. Good conversation starter. Not likely to get stuck on bad roads. No vehicle licensing to worry about in different countries. Uses economical diesel power. And he has a cab! He could even stop along the way and plow a bit to make some extra money.

The map on the side of the trailer is a nice touch. Be sure to stay out of the left lane on the autobahn!!!!!!

And as we all know, "a day on the tractor adds a day to your life!" :thumbsup: :laughing:

He has a few problems - he is barred from using many roads and he needs the vehicle to be properly registered somewhere in the EU. He needs the correct insurance cover for obvious reasons, especially since he is going to be restricted to winding country lanes in many areas.

My son and I looked at doing a similar journey about 8 or 9 years ago, travelling from here back to the UK with a tractor and trailer. Registration and inurance were good, but finding a route that did not add several hundred miles was the hard part. The idea was sound and good luck to Mr Huttasch but I think his problems in Britain and France might overcome his enthusiasm. Shame.
