Found this thing called the "Brush Boss" while browsing this morning....I have about 10 acres of "English Privet" that has about taken over...when it gets in the 3 inch caliper and larger, it is about impossible to knock down without leaving a long, slivery stump.

The web sites recomends a 40 hp tractor for a 4-5 inch tree...I only have 34 hp on my L3430....wondering if ya'll think the hp is close enough to try???

Wow....$ 1095 !! That's quite a few hours with a rented small dozer that will grub and grade that 10 acres.

Garey,

I made a device for the back of my tractor to pop out 3 inch diameter thorn trees. Basically it was a 10 inch wide "C" channel with one end sharpened, attached to an "A" frame for the 3PH. The sharpened end penetrated under the tree and by simultaneously lifting and backing, you could remove the trees out of heavy clay with a 30 HP tractor- Ford 1920.

I'm not suggesting that you use a sharpened "C" channel but rather that maybe you don't need that hydraulic top link to get the force. You could take that picture to a good welder and have something similiar made for a lot less. If your tractor isn't big enough, then spend another $200 or $300 for a hydraulic top link.

I like that V design for a single trunk. If you have bushes or multiple trunks, I wonder if it would grip well enough. (That "C" channel doesn't care what's up there.)

I use one of these on a tip from a fellow forum member. It has worked really well. I can pull a whole bunch of trees at once. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It's available from:

Scissons Enterprises
RR3 Smith Falls Ontario
K7A4S4

It set me back about $1100 delivered. Not-cheap but it's quite a bit of steel. Working from the loader end (if you have one) is a lot faster than the 3-point

Wow, that is pretty neet. $1000 sounds like alot of money though---should be worth it if it works---and it sounds like it does. I had a similar problem. I have a 3520 branson with loader and hoe. I disconnected the hoe and put my box scrape on and went to town. What I couldnt get with the loaders first try, I went COMPLETELY over the 1- 3" tree and past the box scrape, dropped the scraper and backed up slowly--- that sharp rear blade just grabbed that thing and plucked those trees out like a body hair in an inflamed folical. That easy! WOOwee, WOW! I know that the box scrape isnt made for it, but it sure worked fine....With that said, I think that the small tree puller should work just fine if not better.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Below is a link to a thread I posted on a unit I built and shows a few action pictures. I do not own a chipper, so I have found when using it, I like to have my brush hog on for counter balance, then after pulling & laying down small trees, I will brush hog the tops and maybe some of the roots. This cuts down on the clean up volumn greatly. Out in the woods, of course, in the yard would be a different story.
