Hey everyone, is there a trencher attachment for a 4100 compact tractor out there? I want to trench some cable and lamppost wiring and would like to do it with my minibrute!

Thanks

Don't know about a trencher Nuru, but a lot of folks are using a sub-soiler as a cable plough. Depending on your voltage/codes you may be able to do this fairly cheaply. Sub-soilers are inexpensive (<$100) and you can weld a "J" tube on the back side to feed the cable through. Of course you will be limited on depth so I wouldn't use this for 110V but for cable, phone or low voltage lighting it should work just fine. At least that's my plan /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I asked the same question a few weeks ago regarding digging trenches to bury water lines to feed a drip irrigation system. One of the suggestions was to use a subsoiler. I've checked with Tractor Supply and I can buy a Catagory 1 subsoiler with a narrow blade (about 3 inches, more or less) for $139.95. This should allow me to use my John Deere Model 670 to dig some shallow trenches even in our caliche. Another poster showed how he attached a curved pipe to the back of the subsoiler so he could feed flexible pipe or wire through it and lay the pipe or wire at the same time as digging the trench. I'm going to try this as soon as I get my act together.

The subsoiler is probably the best way to go. Kubota offers a trencher for their small tractors, it's a expensive unit around $6000.00 . You didn't mention it your tractor is a hydro or not, but to operate the trencher at a slow enough speed it would need to be.

i use a subsolier/middle buster [you can swap the dirt-chewing parts on this model] for trenching.

i can dig down about 14" this way. if i am making a ditch for draining, i use the plow moldboards [and this is what they call a middlebuster].

if i am cutting a trench for wiring or sprinklers, i use the chisel shaped bit [aka a subsoiler].

this method works very well for me.

Anyone have pictures of a "subsoiler?" Sounds like a great attachment for burying cable and everything except electric.

Thanks forestcreature, that is essentially the same thing I want to do with it.
