Actually saw that machine on TV the other night. I think the program was monster machines and it was awesome working. I believe that they were using it to harvest coal on the show.

That is a good show, I enjoy watching it.
It's called a bucket wheel excavator, and is used to remove the earth over the coal seam or sometimes the coal itself. From what I understand, they are used mostly in Europe, with only a few here in the states.
