Hi Guys. I have been watching and learning about the Powertrac units for over two years now. I have a chance to make a trip into the Va area with the wife and I think I can get a side tour over to the home base ! Any suggestions for attractions and other acomendations ( ie Resorts, etc) in the area? Is the Blue Ridge parkway close to this park of Va. I have allways wanted to go over it again. Thanks for your help

You will love the beauty of Tazewell area. When my wife and I visited PowerTrac we spent a half day touring the countryside. We really loved the back road into the farming community. I was told it was an old Amish area (no longer). Kristie and Scott can give you directions, well worth the short drive. I was not very impressed with the hotel/motel situation in Tazewell, would recommend one down the road about 5 miles and you will have lots of choices. There is a great restaurant heading toward Richlands that was an old barn, super great food. Again Kristie or Scott can clue you in.
I flew into Roanoke and rented a car, drove the mountain pass to Tazewell and enjoyed it very much but we are used to mountain driving. On the way back to Roanoke we took the freeway (81) which was very fast.
What tractor are you looking at?

Have you ever visited Pipestem State Park and Resort? One of my favorites. I would guess you plan to take the toll road (I-77) down to Princeton, then west on 460 to Tazewell, and if so, you'll be passing very close to Pipestem.

Hi Eaglepb,

The closest access to the Blue Ridge Pkwy from Tazewell is off Route 58 in VA. Basically, you would leave Tazewell and get to I-77 South. I-77 joins I-81 for a short distance, and then splits off again as a separate Interstate. South of that split, you would exit at Route 58 near Woodlawn and Galax. Once on Route 58E, you would continue for approximately 22 miles to the entry to the Pkwy.

I travel over Route 58, and I-77 every time I make the pilgrimage to Tazewell from where we live in NC. We're right at the NC/VA border, so I can hop on 58 quickly.

I miss West by gosh Virginia. I lived in Wheeling for 4 years and Morgantown for some 12 years. Great place, wonderful people.

I was there a little over a week ago. It is beautiful country. We came up Highway 16 from I81, very scenic but I wouldn't recommend that route if one was in a hurry.

Forewarning . . . there is only one motel in Tazewell and it is the one PowerTrac recommends. They're remodeling the motel and the 1st floor is supposed to be done but the 2nd floor rooms are under remodel but they're still putting people in there. If you plan to stay there, try to get on the 1st floor. Personally, if I need to overnight there again I'll go to another nearby town to something a bit more modern, especially if the Mrs. is with me. I do highly recommend the Main Street cafe in Tazewell, excellent meals and very reasonable. We had a dinner and a breakfast there and we were very happy with both.

Hope this helps!

Did you end up ordering a machine?

Sure are. I can handle old but chocolate caked on the seat and clumps of dust on everything was a bit too much for me! However, the linens and bathroom seemed to be clean. Maybe when they're done with it it will be ok. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm in the process of finalizing my list of attachments. I expect to order by the end of the month.
