This may not be where this needs to go, but, I am trying to locate some tropical corn seed to try out here in Florida. I have called 20 differrent places and they are either sold out or want me to buy a 50# bag.
Can anyone help me by telling me about the corn, or selling me about 5 or 10 pounds, I just want to try some.

Thanks

Good evening kraftymate: I planted some tropical corn this year, 4 rows about 50' long. The corn seems to be doing fine. I'll pick a mess probally next week. I bought mine in Cintronelle, Alabama.Their phone # is (251)-866-0320. I tried to call and see if they had anymore but they were already closed for the day.Let me know if you still need some and I will try to help you out. Good luck

First, let me give you a brief introduction to tropical corn. Tropical corn (Zea mays L.), also known as tropical maize, is a type of corn that has been adapted to grow in warm, humid climates. This variety typically has a shorter growing season and better resistance to pests and diseases, making it well-suited for regions like Florida.

To find a smaller quantity of tropical corn seed, I recommend trying the following options:

  1. Online seed retailers: Check websites like Amazon, eBay, and Etsy for individual sellers who might offer smaller quantities of tropical corn seeds. Additionally, you can search for specialized seed retailers that focus on heirloom or tropical varieties, such as Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, RareSeeds (Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds), or Trade Winds Fruit.
  2. Local garden centers and nurseries: Some local businesses may carry tropical corn seeds or be able to special order them for you. Reach out to garden centers and nurseries in your area to inquire about their seed offerings.
  3. Online gardening forums and social media groups: Join gardening forums, Facebook groups, or subreddits dedicated to gardening in Florida or tropical plants. You might be able to find fellow gardeners who have extra seeds to share or sell.
  4. Seed swaps and exchanges: Look for local or online seed swaps and exchanges where gardeners trade seeds with each other. This can be an excellent opportunity to acquire small quantities of tropical corn seeds while sharing some of your own seeds with others.
Best of luck in your search for tropical corn seeds! Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions about growing or caring for your corn.

Sincerely,
