Trouble Connecting Scarifier to Kubota M5040

Hello,

We are pretty new to tractors, and planted our first garden (pretty decent size) this year. We have permission to use a Kubota M5040, so we recently picked up a used scarifier and have cleaned it up and painted it. I have no idea as to make/model.

Today we wanted to hitch it up to move it after painting. The attachment is a class I hitch, while the tractor is a class II. We purchased some busings at TSC but they were too long to use. Regardless, we seem to have a bigger problem to figure out:

With the scarifier sitting level, we couldn't get the lift arms to line up with the pins. Either the lift arm pin is too close to the frame of the scarifier, or the lift arm is at the wrong angle. I had to tilt the attachment forward, and even then the machine rubbed the lift-arms. Do we just need to build a stand that keeps the attachment tilted forward when not attached to the tractor? Or is something else awry? I believe that when we get the proper busings, the issue will be even worse, as the pin, and therefore also the frame, of the attachment will be 1/8" higher and intefere even worse with the lift-arms. Hopefully the photos below help. Any advise is very much appreciated.

P.S. Yes, it has teeth/blades. The paint hasn't hardened on the frame nor the blades, so we haven't reattached yet. We did buy all new plow bolts and will put the blades back on once the paint hardens.

It may be because you painted it the wrong color.

The only solution I see is to move the pins up farther. The way it looks you are going to have to fab up something to make that possible.

Although I can't complain since I get to use the tractor, I think it's the wrong color... the scarifier is fine

Thanks - I wasn't sure if it was just that the lift arms were overly large on this particular hitch, or what. I am a very novice welder, but perhaps need to weld new brackers for the lift-pins higher up. Given the angle of the arm to the top-link pin, I guess the new lift-pin will have to be several inches above the old location. Any concerns there? Sorry for the newbie questions.

If anyone has any other ideas, I am all ears! Thanks much to all.

I wonder..... On each side there are two vertical brackets going up the top-link pin. Each bolts on at its bottom, at the frame. I wonder if I could just add a piece of say 1x2" angle iron from the back bolt to the front, on each side, extended forward about 3" beyond the current location of the lift-arm pins. So the new lift-arm pins would be a couple of inches in front of the implement's frame. Does that make sense? If I do this, do I need to worry about the top-link bar then being too short to get the proper angle since the bottom pins will have moved forward several inches? Sorry - again I am a newbie but very eager to learn.

I was thinking of relocating the pin forward like that. However, I got to thinking that instead of welding a bracket, I could just run some steel channel from the back and front bolts that hold the vertical structure on. This way the new piece would be directly integrated into the main frame, and would extend forward a couple of inches beyond the current lift-pin location.

Also just to check, if we move the pins forward several inches, we won't have any problems as a result, right? I want to be able to use this on other tractors as well. I am assuming the top-link bar and lift bars will always have enough combination of adjustability, but have no actual experience to base this assumption on. Thanks!!!

I didnt ask but is your 3pt all the way up in the picture with it on? I was thinking it was,lowering the pin location to were I have in picture will get you alittle higher lift for transport moving it down and in front.

We hooked the scarifier up to a 1970's model International today. Category I hitch. Everything fit real well. I suppose for now we'll just plan to use the old tractor with this implement, though I'm not getting rid of the dimensions I laid out for the planned modifications. In a pinch we could use the category II tractor, it's just a lot harder to get hooked up, because of the tight clearances.

The International is 4,000 lbs, almost identical to the Kubota. It's 2wd and 'only' 32 HP at the drawbar. I assume this would still be fine even in hard dirt, worst case we take a few shallow passes instead of one 14" deep cut?

I did notice that if you let off the clutch too fast into forward gear, it can tend to do a "wheelie" on you a bit. With all the added drag of the 7'6" scarifier, will we need to worry about too much 'weight' on the back? I guess it can't really flip itself up on the rear wheels since the scarifier will be attached to the back.... will the added drag just make the rear wheels pull down into the soil and get added traction? (sorry for newbie questions...)

If you have it on the Kubota like it is and sink it in the ground does it still hit or is it just hitting when in transport....
Depending on the weight of the drag its just gonna pull the tractor down even more....

I think if we sunk it in the ground, it would not rub, but it would be close. It rubs unless we angle the implement forward (nose-down) before hooking up to the Kubota. I would be fine building some sort of cradle that holds the implement nose-down if we need to. That said, I am not sure if we could tilt the implement that far forward in the "up" position and still get it level when it's under the ground? I wish there was a steep ditch near by we could back up to and check the depth/angle.

Some how you need to move the lower pins forward 2 to 3 inches. Then I think you would have full articulation forward / back and left and right tilt.

That looks to be an old ford or dearborn spring tooth cultivator. I had one just like it, only it was ford blue.
It looks like you are going to have to, have someone, fab a bracket that will lengthen out and drop down the lower link pins.
The free option is to park the implement in front of a burm so the tractor is higher that the implement.
