Hi all,

I have used the forums to try and sort issue with mf165 . I ran low on fuel. Would not start again. Changed filter and bleed system and worked. However it keeps cutting out after ten to thirty min and then can take up to thirty min to restart. Today it stopped again and I noticed that over the injectors pump was squirting a solid stream of liquid out from the block. It was from a circular recess in the block approx 1 inch across.it was from a pin hole and It was very hot like water, not fuel or diesel. How do I repair this. I presume it is water from rad? Also still have starting issue to sort. Any ideas welcome. Very frustrated at this stage.
Thanks

I will try and attach picture I took.

From your message I'm gonna gues you are probably new to engines / tractors.. etc.

first. the recess leaking is most liekly a core plug.

easy to replace.. knock it sideways with a punch, remov with pleirs, get a new one, put a smear of permatex on it, seat it then peen the center to expand it.

on the pump / fuel issue.. make sure you do not have an obstruction that is starving her of fuel.. like a plugged tank tap. also make sure the filter housing is sealed and that you didn't double up the oring from the old one. obstruction OR sucking air will cause problems.. though i'm leaning toward lack of fuel as being your problem on this one.

G'day as soundguy said it sounds like a core plug but on a 165 it should be a cup type so it won't need to be peened in the middle to seat, as for the fuel prob i would be leaning towards a blocked fuel tap filter you have to remove the tap from the tank to clean this one.

Thanks Guys,

It would sound like Im new to tractors and that but funny enough been around them my whole life!! :ashamed: I spent most of my time fixing machinery while leaving the engine stuff to my brother. I picked this tractor up in a field that had not been started in few years. Changed the filters and it started straight away. It is quite rough and in need of lots of TLC. There is no instruments left in the dash so lots of work to do. Any one have a link to a full manual/ workshop book that can give step by step instructions for mf165?

I only have basic knowledge about engines and just enough to get by, so better to ask than be sorry.

I used some steel putty to fill pin hole until I get tractor back to yard as it is in middle of field, so hopefully it better stick until then

Foe the fuel, I have a feeling its the tank as when I changed the filter the first time it was quite gritty inside! So Im going to take the bull by the horns and empty the tank and clean the fuel tap. Bit of a messy job but hopefully is the problem. Was certain to make sure only the seals in the filters were not doubled up.

On the injector closest to the steering wheel is bit worn from opening (I assume this has been a issue for a while) and wonder if I can put tape on it to make sure there is no air been sucked in here?

Regards
Mark

injector sucking air? mor elike squirting fuel. i'd look for air leaks befor ethe injector pump.. ie.. suction side.. not the pressure side. pressure side, if there is a leak, will show as a fuel puddle.

no thread tape unless you want clogged injectors...

G'day I forgot to mention earlier about a screen in the lift pump it will be under the little cover on the top of the lift pump, just got to undo screw and lift off these often get overlooked

So I drained the fuel tank through a filter to take out any debris that was there. Took out the fuel tap from the tank and hey presto there was no filter on the top of it. A quick visit to my local supplier (luckily I have an vintage tractor supplier close to my home) and fitted new tap, bled system and away it went straight away!!!

I eventually emptied out the tank and cleaned it. Of the 20 liters of fuel in it half of it was dirt and girt and water..... no wonder I had problems starting
