I have had a Fold-A-Cover truck bed cover on my 2005 Silverado since it was new. I have really liked the cover and it has served me well but after 11.5 years one of the sections is delaminating. I talked to company and they want $190 for the replacement part plus $60 shipping. I can purchase a new one for $700 and free shipping and installing a new one would be less work than inserting the replacement panel. The rest of the cover is not without some wear and tear.

If I go for a replacement do i want to stay with this brand - what else is out there that gives easy bed access as well as a sealed hard cover option?

The truck has 156,000 on it but runs well and I have no intentions of getting rid of it until it dies.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your input!

It sounds like you want to replace it with a new one, same brand. I've had a hard cap on a couple trucks, a folding hard cover (split 50/50) on one, and now a roll up soft Truxedo cover. This roll up has been the best by far for me. Nearly water proof, easy on and off in seconds, leave it rolled up and completely out of the way on a moments notice if needed too. Like I said, this has been the best for me and I will get another when it wears out. It sounds like you feel the same about your folding hard cover for your truck.

I bought a Peragon retractable truck bed cover last year for my truck. I was a little concerned about the weight of snow we get bending the panels. Last week I had over 25" of wet heavy snow on the cover with no damage or bending at all. I used a garage push broom to pull the snow off the cover. No cover is completely waterproof but very little rain water gets under the seals and into the bed. So far I'm happy with it and the price $699 plus options was similar to your Fold-A-Cover. I see you need a wrench to remove the cover if needed, the Peragon does not need tools to remove. You have many more years on your cover than I so can't compare the longevity of my Peragon.
Your options are $250 for the replacement panel plus your time to replace that panel, buy a new one for $700 and install with less work, or buy another brand and install.
If you are happy with it replace it with a new one and get another 11 years of reliable use.

I know you want a hard cover but have you considered a soft tonneau? The Access Lorado is a very nice cover.

I have a Bak Revolver X2 on my truck. It is a roll up hard cover, aluminum slats that latch in to side rails.

I like my Leer truck cap, but I'm aware it's not for everyone. I like being able to toss my fishing gear in the bed and lock it, as well as store tools. Heck, add a small air mattress and it makes a decent camper for weekend trips! Only problem is having to crawl in the bed if things slip all the way forward. I've never tried to take it off, but I think just using the bucket forks and some 2x6s should be able to pick it right off.

I have an Extang tri-fold that's on the second pickup, not totally water proof, but lockable & easy off if needed. If I need it off away from home, it will fold to put in the bed with the load.

I've had the tri fold cover but replaced it with a fiberglass cap after it got some holes in it. I like the cap because I can put more things in it and keep them dry and locked. If I went with a tonneau ever again I'd get a tuxedo roll up. It lets you basically use the whole length of your bed which you don't get with the tri fold.

Thanks! I had fun looking these up. I have thought about a soft cover but have heard about shrinkage or velcro issues over time which has concerned me. Not that I have seen them but I have heard and we all know how rumors get going - has anybody seen this over time or is that another one of those hard cover guys sales myths?

I looked at American Tri-fold today but was not real enamored with it being soft even though it did fold in sections.

Howling - I found the videos on the BAK site quite interesting both in the rollup like you have and the foldable. I will be looking more into that one. Having to open the tailgate each time is negative as lots of time I am at a store and I want to just drop something in behind the cab. The newer Elite Fold-A-Cover has one hand opening which would be handy as I am usually carrying something if I want to put it in the bed.

grnspot - The Extang looks really nice but a little more expensive. I like the idea of plastic panels instead of aluminum skin. I was in some one inch hail one time and the truck was not hurt but you can really see it in the Fold-A-cover panels. No structural damage but definitely appearance damage and water holders.

Ford850 - the truxedo titanium looks really solid and about the same price. Probably worth another look although it does have the velcro on the sides.

Appearance wise I like all of what was mentioned here better than the Fold-A-Cover because with its aluminum panel construction there are a lot more edges.

Thanks again - I am getting exactly what I wanted and expected from this group.

I had a BakFlip F1. After 2 years the panels had absorbed and were holding water. They replaced it under warranty. However, after 1 year the new one did the same thing.
