Need advice on aux fuel tanks for filling tractors.

I have a long bed 03 Dodge and I'm thinking an under the tool box type. Any good sources? I have one of those extra large over the rail tool boxes which only leaves me about 10/11" between the box and wheel well. It measures 72" X 29" so its tight, I will have the same 11" or so when I pull the tool box back against the wheel well. Its a $600 tool box, so I'm trying to reuse it. The tool box combos are a little high for me now and the ones I've seen on the net are for the truck, not a re fuel set up.

Do you know of any good companines that could build me a custom 10" thick L tank? Nothern tool has a white one (75) for $375 but I think its to thick between the tool box and front bed rail and i rather not have it white on an all black truck. I'm going to go check today. Local sources are limited, very few L type tanks.

Advice? Guide lines? Help? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Has anyone mounted an L tank in reverse, where the vertical portion is on the tail gate side?

the l shaped tanks should mount for you, i have seen them at tractor supply, i guess you could take it to a paint shop and have them paint it any color you want, should not take very much, or you could get your own spay gun and do it your self, sounds like a small problem either way.

will the L shaped tanks fit under your tool box?

tractor supply has this 36 gal stand up model might fit.
36 gal tank

they also have some L and square tanks, but this one seems thinner made for a fifth weel application.

Yes, I think it will fit under the box. My father said he saw a Ford at work with the same box and a fuel tank. He's going to look closer and find out the gallon size and brand. I really need the most fuel I can get.

Have you guys ever laid eyes on a truck aux / re-fuel tank. It would really be nice to have both. I've been running road diesel in the tractors anyway. I could modify a new steel tank, I've seen a sending unit kit for a re-fuel tank. But, I've never seen one with a pump for filling stuff and a supply for the truck. I must be a rare bird or something, I don't see any setups out there like that. Just need an extra threaded neck for the pump on an L shaped tank and I'll be set.

Must not be much of a market for them, or I'm not looking in the right place. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think I found one from Northern Tool that will fit, it was not in the store display, but they do have it online. The 56 gallon and 97 gallon are on sale for $279.00. But, they don't give the specs on the 97. Maybe the local store has more info.

Sage brush my older brother when he was in business had a 96 Chevy 4 door single tire 3500. He had it chromes and diamond plated on all the add ons. Hes like you even though his truck was white it would stand out on his tool box and headache rack. We had a frein d with a heilarc/tig welder weld a diamond plate coveer for his tank. We had it behind the tool box and it was an L tank. Also if we hauled the forks orr any other sharp item it wouldnt dent the aluminum or jab through it. We lost an aluminum tank like that once. It looked real good and we had to draw the line though at the diamond plate bed cover we built. We noticed that the bright reflections was a bit obnoxious to others.

They can be bright, I never polish mine. So, in three months the bright finish turns a dull silver.

After running the new one ton empty back from Alabama, I think I need the weight of the L tank. It rides fine with 500+ in the back, empty running can get rough on those pot holed back roads oF Alabama. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I found a 100 gal. L tank in diamond plate (combo finish) for just under $400. Now I need some blocks to raise my big tool box and I'll be set.
