I've checked my towing mpg based on laod and speed on my 99 f450 with 7.3psd, and 4.88 rear anbut have just now gotten around to check my around town milage... surprised me kinda... 13.4mpg I was actually expecting less.

when towing loaded averaginging 12K I can get 8-9 mpg if I stay between 67 and 72mph.. If I push 75 to 77 mph, milage drops off into the toilet at a whopping 4-5mpg :) darn low rear end kills fuel economy since engine is taching soooo high.

that 13.4 however.. really surprised me.. was a mix of regular city and some highway miles. good mix... that's not much worse than my f250 witht 6.0 psd.. it gets 13-15 depending.. and regularly right at 14.. though have had it as high as 17 on a long trip with 30+ hours of interstate miles..

Thats not bad at all. In my '00 f350 with 3.73 rear, I average in the high 16's, around the 13's when towing. I do sometimes wish I had that higher low end, but I guess I can't complain.

I have the 4.30 axle ratio in my '08 F-450 pickup. I'm averaging about 12mpg with the 6.4 diesel. These trucks have the aerodynamics of a brick so the faster you go the lower the mpg is going to be even without towing a load. If I slow down to 55-60 mph I can get around 14mpg.

i have a scoop on mine to help deflect some air from my towed load.. but when not towing I'm sure it's an air dam... :)

The low rear really does not hurt as much as people seem to think. I had 2 F-150's that were identical. 4x4, short bed, 5.4, ect. One had 3.73's and one had 4.10's They were only 1 mpg apart week in and out.

Now if you were to take them on say a 1000 mile highway trip the 3.73 would do maybe 3 mpg better but for most driving they were very close.

I have a F-350 v-10 4x4 w/ 4:10 gears. Around town in the 0 degree cold with ethanol mix I am getting a little over 9MPG not using 4x4. In the summer driving like I have an egg under the gas pedal I get up to 11 around town. I have gotton over 15MPG on the highway in the summer also....The winter city driving knocks the heck out of the mileage.......

My uncle has the same truck other than he has 4.30 gears and he gets 10 around town and 12 is the best. His is a 2005 Extended Cab F-350 SRW 4x4 V-10.

Its a pulling beast for a gasser. No diesel but pretty darn good.

I have two Strokers, a 03 reg cab 4X2 w/ 7.3 automatic, and a 05 F350 ext cab 4X4 w/ 6.0 and 6 speed. Both have 3.73 gears.

I usually average 17-18 in the summer no trailer, low 15 to high 14s now during winter. I can get 19-20 easy on the interstate running 65. Towing 6000 lbs all summer mowing yards, usually never over 60 mph, I average 13, thats with either truck.

My 2008 F250, Super Duty, 17,000 miles, 4x4, 5.4 ltr, 3.73 differentials, lightfootn' it, the best overall average I can get is 13.0. It's a great truck except the mileage. I tried a K&N air filter, no change. Don't know what to try next.
