Well, a few more dings in the old truck yesterday. First, I was backing a trailer and jacknifing it when I went a wee bit too far. Dang, there goes the top edge of the tailgate! (Gate was down as long load was in the box). Oh well.....

Then there was the big hay bale that I inadvertently pushed against the inside of the box. Well, when I looked at things closely, both sides of the box were pushed outward about an inch. The tailgate would not close. So, wratchet strap to the rescue.

Good thing I keep trucks till the bitter end. These exercises are not much for trade in value!!

jimmyj...If it makes you feel any better..I once had just bought a brand new Dodge Ram 4X4 and had my trailer hooked up to it and jackifed it alongside the barn trying to park the tailer and scraped the right front fender against the cattle head gate...just enough to give me a nice small crease...not too noticeable but the truck had about 50 miles on it and I knew it was there and it bugged me til the day I sold the truck...:)

Bob, I feel your pain and the new truck story reminds me of one I have too.

The very first day I had this truck (it's an 03) I was coming home and the old lady at the end of my road was walking her dog. So, as always I stopped to say hello and see how she was. Well, the big ole' dog jumped up and claw-scratched the dickens out of the door. Whattayagonnado :( Good thing it's a work truck!!!

The newer or nicer your truck is, the higher the chances of something like that happening. Or at least it seems that way.

hmm...rule...it's best to lower tail gate before driving AWAY from a gooseneck trailer....don't ask me how I know:ashamed:

Since you have the TV thread, I once picked up a "free" large 36"+ CRT TV with a 1 month old, less than 1,000 mile work truck. I loaded the awkward thing by myself onto the tailgate and laid it down on it face so that it wouldn't flop over. Drove a couple of miles out of town and slowed at the bottom of a hill to turn left. The momentum tossed the TV from the back of the bed into the top front edge of the bed. I saw it coming in my mirror. The front edge of the bed was pretty much touching the cab.

When I got home, I plugged the TV in and it still worked. Had to straighten the truck bed out with a 2x4 and clamps. Still has a slight bow in it today.

Among RVers there's a saying that there are two kinds of people who pull fifth-wheels; those who have torn their tailgate off and those who are going to.;)

and my dad knows about shooting across the hood, while looking thru the scope which is inches ABOVE the barrel.
