looking at getting a truck to tow my tractor more.

currently have a 17 tacoma but I have been throwing around the idea of getting the wife a new ride to replace her civic and driving that to work every day (100 mile commute)

got a trade offer of around 21000 for it. I figure I could get a truck for 11k and get her into a newer suv with money we have saved and leftovers.

I have been looking at 2500hd 6.0 gas and also tundras with higher mileage I would like to be able to tow 10k so I can upgrade trailers as well.

what about the 2v 6.8 f250? there is a good deal on one local to me.

I could always get a newer ram (2016 4x4 hemi) with my full trade in amount and just have her keep the civic now.

Hard to beat current model Tundra for 1/2 ton truck. Only issue is bad gas mileage but have tons of power and super reliable. Farmer I know tows 30’ gooseneck with round bales on it with one. They are very tough trucks.

yeah, pretty much any choice I make will have bad gas mileage. so I am not worried about that hence keeping the civic to do my commute.

A little clarification could help. Are you wanting to get yourself a truck with more capability AND replace your wife’s civic? Or just upgrade the truck?

How much does your tractor weigh?

IMO, can’t beat a Honda Civic for a 100 mile commute. I sold my last one at 240K miles and still ran great.

Tundra’s are great. Several have gone over 1 million miles. But crew cab will have a slightly lower tow rating. Ford and Chevy 250/2500 gas trucks are reliable, cheap to maintain, and have good towing capabilties.

so I have 2 options. 1 is to get a cheaper tow truck and replace my wifes civic with a small suv for her. (I will drive the civic to work then)

or I can replace the tacoma with something to daily drive and tow (like a 2016 ram 1500 5.7 with 55k on it)

tractor is a b2650 with a loader, rops model so less than 2500lbs but I will be adding implements and a heavy hitch for counterweight.

it sounds like a small suv and a cheaper, gas, 2500 american made pickup would be the ticket. 100 mile commute is brutal. Mine was 60 miles on country roads, and i am glad to be permanent work from home now.

i have a half ton GMC pickup and my wife drives a Volt. The Volt costs nearly nothing to drive/own. and the truck gets the bigger jobs done. I don't tow heavy often enough to justify a 2500. I would not want to feed a pickup with that long commute.

17 Tacoma is as nice as any SUV you would get the wife. Why not just commute with the civic and have her drive the truck? It should be able to tow that small tractor around. I am guessing you already thought of this, so wondering why you decided against it. Seems a shame to get rid of such a new truck to go out and get something that might be full of problems for you.

Worse comes to worse, just keep what you have and get a beater 3/4 ton to make the occasional heavy tow with.
