Truck wheels on a trailer?

Couldn't it also put LESS load on the spindles and hubs if the offset were less. Of course with less offset it may be more likely to rub on something but if it didn't rub it should be OK.
You're confusing backspace with offset. You could go to the extreme and have a wide wheel with a huge backspace which would move the tire inward. You'd still be creating a lot of leverage on the spindle......just from the other direction.
The important thing is to retain the original offset for the reasons Renze explained. Especially on a trailer because of the loads involved.

One thing that nobody ever admits to is cutting a corner short when pulling a trailer. It's not an issue unless you happen to be in an urban setting with concrete curbs! If you clip a curb with aluminum rims you can take a chunk out of the rim if you're really unlucky, do the same with a steel rim and you probably just put a small bend it. Steel is much more durable than aluminum!

It is more like running out of air at 100 ft when you've been down there for 2 hours, you NEVER admit to it coz Ya just DON'T DO IT !

BTW, gooseneck and 5th wheel trailers have a greater tendency and one quickly learns to CURSE areas where the town planner fools have decided that there will be no left turns.
With a long trailer three lefts are preferable to one right.

What IS that crap with no left turn signs anyway ?
How does it make ANY sense to force drivers do three turns and a straight through plus make the vehicles run along 4 block sides ?
The bottom line has to be more vehicles on the roads for more time running through more intersections.
They think that helps TOTAL traffic flow ?

I found out the hard way that the hole in the center is too small. Never carried a spare for the dump trailer thinking I could use the spare from my chevy 2500HD, Wrong and wrong at the worst moment.

Yep. GM uses smaller front hubs than Ford. Not sure about Dodge but I know GM 8 lugs will not fit.

It seems like trailers with more then 6 lugs will definately will not have anything from GM fit the trailers hubs. I do know for sure that a 6 lug gm rim will fit a 3500lb axle on a trailer as a spare (ask me how I know ) .

6 lug on a 3.5K axle???? Everyone I have ever seen was 5 lug.

6 lug hubs are usually found on 5.2K and 6K axles.

The hub center hole diameter is an issue with a lot of other combinations too. Just one of those "argghh" details. As someone pointed out, different trucks have different stud diameters over the years (for future reference).

My 14k goose neck has old style ford 8 lug wheels and tires on it. The newer super dutys I think have a differant bolt pattern.

- left turns are usually controlled movements, you need more space on the road in order to que cars to make a controlled movement, space that could otherwise be spent on moving cars down the road (like an extra through lane)
- crossing directly infront of oncomming traffic is far more dangerous. there are plenty of traffic statics to show how many more traffic crashes are due to left turn violations.
- the number of vehicals on the road (at any given time) is generally fixed. how quickly traffic overall moves is what makes it feel like a arse ton of cars vs light traffic. by having to stop traffic for controlled movments you generate more congestion than by just haveing cars moving.
- anytime you dont have to stop traffic to have them do something, your going to achive a higher level of service, you HAVE to stop before makeing a left
-in general you can make 3 rights in the amount of time it takes to wait for one controlled left. this is why UPS/FedEx delivery trucks do not make lefts.

in short there are a lot of reasons why areas do not allow left turns
